Our gas is still cheap compared to most of the rest of the world. But are you experiencing increases of about 10% to 20% each day? with no end in sight?

Our gas should be cheaper, look how much foreign aid we put out each year. Like us or not USA does alot and pays alot of money to keep this world operating. I'm not saying all we do is perfect but we do a hell of a lot.

Our Gas prices are jumping here as well. On the local news last night they said there was no reason our prices should jump as our gas (IN AZ) comes from California and not the area the hurricane hit and there is a surplus of gas in AZ. Prices were 2.77 at or higher at some stations last night. We will see what the end of the week brings.

Gulf Station in New Jersey. Yesterday morning $2.60 a gallon. Yesterday afternoon $3.28 Now we all know that he did not pay that much for the gas in his tank. There is no reason for gas prices to shoot up this much in such a short time.

Watch for all the gas companies to post record profits again next year.

The price of everything keeps going up while my paycheck keeps getting smaller.

Here in New Jersey, we have many many refineries. Why is it that we are listed as having the 2nd most expensive gas in the country behind California. If anything, we should have one of the cheapest gas prices. The gas companies aren't transporting it as far.

Thanks for the link Scott. I thought that was why gas is higher in Europe...it's also the reason for the wide variance within the USA.

Wow - a double whammy! That bites. You have actually taken a pay decrease?!

Taxes. State and Local. That's the difference.

1.) Sort of, all overtime was cut which was my mistake to depend on it too much.
2.) I believe NJ has the lowest taxes on gasoline

Some links with gas pricing info (USA). Taxes, rankings, etc... Some of this is a couple years old, but you can get an idea on the trend.

From what I know besides the normal taxes any product have, in europe there is a tax in the gass price that is used for roads infrastructure maintenance. So that only prople who use the roads pay. The amount varies from country to country.

let me jump on this band wagon!
2 days ago I paid 2.59, later that day, 2.69, next morning(yesterday) 2.99, later that day 3.15, this morning 3.40.
Oh this is putting a serious hurting on my wallet as I drive 100 miles
roundtrip to work and back per day!

My roundtrip is 140 miles. Talked to boss yesterday - I already telecommute from home 3 days a week - now it's 4 until things settle down a bit with the gas pricing issue. Could be a while?

[voice=Jabba the Hutt]Ho Ho Hooo, we make world go round, Ho Ho Hooo.... slurp[/voice] $1.20 a litre here now. I gues the American gas companies are spreading the pain around so the US does not take the full brunt.

Kinda makes me glad it's still at about $3.30 here in Easley...
Regular was $3.099 last evening at a Sunoco in Five Forks, just a few miles from you,but they feared running out..Their last delivery was premium only...TV news last night reported some stations in Atlanta were charging $6.+,and the Gov. was going to step in to control prices there..

Please read the last third or so of this article:
Gov. urges conservation; Spinks sells gas at cost

At least one convenience chain owner has the decency and the generosity to try to ease the pain that we are feeling at the pumps, even if it's only a little.

Well they brought in a few tankers today. Reg $2.61 Prem $2.89. People from Mississippi must have homeing devices, because as soon as the gas was here they were here with 55 galllon drums in the back of thier pickups.

I read this thread and got all scared, and left to go see what prices were at, and they haven't gone up here in Los Angeles.

Earlier today I saw a gas truck at a 76 station too.

Where are you, Movieman? I am in Glendale. I haven't checked the stations yet, but we are filling up tonight for our trip tomorrow. I paid $2.98 over a week ago for premium. I wonder if it's gone up here.

I just got back from visiting my brother's family in Cary (Raleigh suburb), NC and I saw gas prices for premium over $4.00/gal. As we continued north, the prices dropped, but still it's $3.29/gal regular here.

The gas stations that have gas here the range is $2.90 and $3.31/per gallon. BP seems to be the highest, Amoco and Crown seems to be on the average and Shell is out of gas except there V-Power which is $3.33/per gallon.

But as I watch the news my problems seem so small compared to what others are going through from south Alabama to New Orleans. My God this is America and it seems like we were late saving our own people. I not a professional, I don't know what it takes to get those people help but I can not grasp the idea that it should take this long just to get them water and food.

Couldn't they have dropped it from the air? If we could see them starving and dying from lack of clean drinking water on the news channels, the aid should of been able to know where to drop supplies. Someone said if they did it would cause a riot possibly and cause many deaths as the fault for the supplies. But my opinion is that they all are going to die if we don't.

I hear the government saying we will rebuild and be stronger. At this time lets not worry about that, and say we are on our way to save you.

Why hasn't the government ask other countries for help? are we to proud. I have heard that France has offered some help and I think a few other countries had offered help aswell, thank you.

Right now most the people that are being saved are being saved by everyday people. Charity Hospital (the one you see on tv - life in the er) Is getting little help. People are dying there.

I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just hurt as I watch these people die in front of our eyes. I call on Amercan Leaders to quit saying what they are going to do and do it. Again I'm sorry for the post, but I can't help but cry.

I just heard on the news that the Ma state government is thinking of dropping their tax, a paltry 21 cents a gallon, to help ease the burden on it's citizens. Now Briton has a gas tax of 70% of the price. Can you imagine the British government dropping the tax to help ease the burden? If they are paying $8.00 a gallon minus 70% tax that would be unbelievable, and the price of a gallon would be about$2.40.

Gas went from $2.61 to about $3.25 here in the last week. I think it's ridiculous but it's not going to stop me from going where I want. Luckily, though, I only live 7 miles from work and don't drive a 10-mile-per-gallon vehicle.
