Hey all,
I was bored today and dropped by the Hollywood Entertainment Museum. It was dimly and unevenly lit and I shot mainly at ISO 800-3200 with my Tokina 12-24 and Tamron 17-35, using really slow shutter speeds like 1/20 sec on a routine basis.
They had many actual props from the movies and also had reassembled some of the actual sets from Star Trek the next Gen., X-Files (Moulder's Office), and the actual Cheers Bar set, it was actually really impressive.
I've uploaded some pics and am currently uploading my last batch.

Very intersting stuff. Sad it was so badly lit. You did good for the lighting. I guess you couldn't use a flash?

The gun exhibit is coming in 2008, so they'll be shooting it in 2007. I was planning waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy ahead.

Hey guys... Hope your meet this month was productive. I'm sorry I couldn't make it, but I joined some friends and hiked Mt. Whitney. Because of the nature of the hike (22 miles, 16 hours and 6100+ ft elevation gain to 14,496 feet) I could only manage to take a small P&S camera and only managed a few shots. You can see them in the 'Whitney' folder in my portfolio. Where was your outing? Please post some when you get a chance.

Check the Whitney folder in my portfolio. It was an amazing experience and some of the most incredible scenery I have ever seen.

Wow Chuck! What a beautiful view. I love the twisted tree photo! How did you hike this? Did you mountain climb, grapple or just walk walk walk? How long did it take you? Did you camp up there? Tell us more!

Wow that is an amazing hike Chuck! That truly does look beautiful. I always bring it up but if you want a place packed to the brim with beauty, be sure to check out Banff and Jaspers National Parks in Canada. Amazing.

The view was incredible! The photos don't do justice to the view from that altitude. I really wish I could have had my 10D and lenses with me. The Marmots were pretty funny, just scurrying from person to person looking for a handout. I have heard that they can be pretty bold if they find an unattended pack with food.
Details on the hike:
We pretty much just walked. Of the 10 of us that started out together, only 4 made the summit. The trail was fairly easy to follow, but there were a lot of boulders to climb/scramble over. It really was harder along the crest trail as the train was fairly narrow and rocky, with a huge drop if you made any missteps. The hike is 10.7 miles each way. You can do the hike over two or more days if you want, but we opted for the one-day option and of course had to carry enough water and food for the entire day. We started at 3 am and finished at 7 pm, which included a half-hour stop for lunch and one hour at the top to enjoy the view and rest. It is a gruelling hike... very strenuous and the possibility of altitude sickness over 10,000 ft elevation (which comes in at about 3-4 miles into the hike. The altitude at the summit is 14,496 feet and provides an incredible 360 degree view. On one side of the crest you have Death Valley and the surrounding desert areas (trailcrest02.jpg and summit01.jpg) and on the other side are spectacular views of Sequoia National Park (trailcrest01.jpg).
If you are into hiking and enjoy spectacular views and excruciating suffering, consider joining me next summer :)

Thanks! I was just in Canada for a few days about 2 weeks ago, but just to visit family in Sarnia (just over the border from Detroit). The only real sight I took in was Niagara for a few hours. I would love to spend extended time throughout Canada... I have heard and seen photos of some amazing scenery there!

Great photos Tom! You are getting better and better! I am glad I didn't go to the rodeo. I am not a fan of rodeos. The animals are not treated very well, in many cases. I love your capistrano photos. Really nice color and angles!

Tom went out with the Yahoo LA photo group. We didn't end up getting together in DPC style though.
It's been a while. I am organizing a get together for October 1st though. Sadly, I've got almost the entire month of September booked up (on weekends) with trips and helping my sister move.
I can go out on week nights though, locally.
As for Bats Day, it was great fun! Greg & Katy were there that day, coincidentally. I left my cell phone home so we never ran into each other. The people at Bats Day are really nice. It's the last Sunday in August every year. Mark your calendar & dress in black!
