What is wrong with bagheads. I am one and damn proud of it. No more pm's during voting.

I think when titling pics it is quite important that one remembers that there is a multi-national group here some of whom may not understand slang or dialect words.
Loved the picture by the way, Mandy! I voted it high despite not understanding the title, just looked at the photo as such.
I spent ages getting a title for D & L because I knew I would lose votes if I missed out the & and it's not a good enough shot to withstand even more problems!!!!

Here ya go, this has helped me bond with my teenage daughter and her friends ;) lol and could become useful here.

with all the complaints about people not commenting enough, there sure seems to be quite a few topics about people making bad comments....

How come bag heads like to leave rougher than usual comments? I think its cowardy! They get their SAY, but stonewall any explanations or clarifications from the photographer. That is hardly balanced. So you don't want PM's during a challenge? I bet you don't, you want to be the one in control. Sounds a tad Narcissistic to me.

Thanks sabphoto, I have been educated! Can't think why anyone would object to this title - fits the pic to my mind!

I totally agree with your entire statement. What exactly are you hiding from? I want CONSTRUCTIVE critizism. Tell me that me that my focus is off or that the photo is grainy or I should have used different lighting. DON'T say that my model is heavy or that my title doesn't reflect the challenge. Maybe it does reflect the challenge. Just open your mind a bit and think about it, but LOOK at the photo.

Mandy - don't feel bad. I got ripped on more of my comments than I care to mention. Art IS an interpretation and to me the title represents part of it as a personal expression. THAT WAS YOUR PERSONAL EXPRESSION but the remark was just a personal opinion so I guess in a way it balances out.
I think we do forget that our vernacular is not the same as someone in South Africa or New Zealand, so it'sd hard to think of that along with what someone's personal take is going to be on not only a photo but on it's name. (This responding to another part of the thread)
Your work is outstanding, so don't let this one instance make a difference to you. Keep on truckin' m'dear!!! I think you rock! |

Heck I just wanted comments. Some people received over 100 comments and I only received about 1/4 as many. Personally I thought my image was rather thought provoking. Many may disagree and that's OK with me. The comments were positive about lighting, pose, etc... then what the heck was WRONG with the shot? Feedback is the only way to improve.
Anyone else care to comment? I promise, NO hard feelings and NO PM's...

The whole point is that they want to judge your photo WITHOUT explanations and clarifications. And yes, they ARE in control during the voting period. The photographer has their chance to be in control during the week that they have to take a photograph that can stand on its own. You don't get an additional week to write up discourse proving why your photo is worthy.

Why is it okay to leave comments about the first two but not about the second two? How is a commenter to know what things you have deemed okay to comment on?

Yopu get constructive critisism. You just don't know who made the comment until voting is over. ONCE voting is over you can see who made the comment and address it accordingly. If you don't like bagheads commenting on your photo then don't enter the challenges.........If you don't want unbiased opinions then DON'T enter the challenges. I am flat sick of defending th fact that I am I baghead.....that is an option to this website and that is my option, if you don't like it well you can kiss my ..........

Oh now that is so mature. I'm not going to stop entering challenges just because you can't show your face when you vote. I personally don't think this site is about favorites. Its about growing as a photographer.

Why is not ok to comment on the title or the model, because we each look at art differently. I don't need someone making a comment that I'm heavy. Heck, I know I am, I live with it everyday. Granted the photo was bad, I did it quickly and should have stepped back and redone the shot BUT, its what I wanted to do. Out of the good instruction I got from a few of the comments, I can now go back and re-adjust my photo to where is looks better. Its because they looked at the quality of my photo and not who I photographed.

Leaving cryptic comments is not the point of being a baghead. I just want to leave a comment without having to defend it during the voting period. I stand behind everything I write and I always try to be polite and constructive, although I am sure at times it might seem terse if I leave a short comment. If you care to discuss it, let's talk after the voting period at which time the bag will be ripped from my head, revealing the hideous visage within...

Sorry. Forgot the smilie. :-) I have never been ashamed or afraid of my comments or the replies I might receive to to them. I just thought that if I ever did convert to baghead it would be fun to leave cryptic comments....now I have my chance!

Wow! This thread has turned into quite the rant.
First, Mandy, IMO, I think you were wrong to call the comment out in the forum. I don't understand why someone would be offended or bothered by the word 'bling', but, if the commenter doesn't like it, then that is his/her perogative. We're all different people, with different experiences and backgrounds. There's bound to be differences in opinion on nearly everything.
IMO, what you post in the challenges or your online portfolio is a package deal. Title, border, photo...it's all a single presentation. The photo should be the focal point, but the border and title are supporting elements. If you're worried about your score or comments that may be directed to a border or your title, keep that in mind when processing and choosing the title.
Bagheads: I hadn't noticed overly harsh comments from them.
Regarding voters being more open-minded; sometimes the person receiving the comment could use some of this same advise. There *are* times that comments are from out in left field, or it is obvious the commenter mis-understood something. But I've seen enough threads regarding crappy comments that I didn't think were that bad. Sometimes if the person receiving the comment could step back and try to remove themselves from their entry and not get offended, but seriously consider the viewpoint of the commenter, it could avoid some hard feelings. Maybe I'm just thick-skinned, or have been lucky and not received a really bad comment yet, but I always look at comments and consider what was said and decide if I like the idea or not. But I don't bash on the commentor for sharing their opinion/interpretation.
ok, I'm done...filled my rant quota for a while. :-) |

Commenters who choose to remain anonymous during voting are merely execising one of the options offered by the site. They do not desreve to be called names for doing so. They are not cowards or narcissists. And they shouldn't have to put up with childish whining like that being spewed in this thread.
That this type of posts still continue to appear so long after the option was started makes me wonder if it wouldn't have been better to make anonymous commenting during voting mandatory for all of us.

These are the reasons we fight to get comments now. I feel I am very polite in my comments. I am not going to kepp defending WHY I wear a bag. It is an option offered by this siter that I choose to use. If you don;t like it then so be it. Stop entering the challenges and you won't get them anymore.

No I am not wrong. Did she PM me about her opinion of my title? NO. It was a public comment on my entry. Why should I have to PM her about MY opinion of her comment? I did not like it, so I posted my opinion of the comment. That is my perogative. |
