Hi Steve,
Let's see if I can explain myself right...
Polarizer (P or PF) is a generic term for any polarizer filter. You can buy two flavors, linear (LP or LPF) and circular (CP or CPF). The right one for your camera is the circular one, which is a member of the polarizer family, BTW ;-). does it make sense?
Now for the second question: about Spain.... or was it the first one? :)
I live in Sevilla, close to Costa del Sol which is in Malaga province (some 250km, about 160 miles), and a little farther away of Madrid (about 500km, do the miles math yourself so you get used to, no miles signs around here ;-)
what are your interests? do you want to see art museums, old towns or typical quartiers, beach and sun...? will you have a car so you can drive wherever you please or are you going in a planned closed tour?
As a general rule, you can find a lot of thing to see, whichever your interests are, from skyscrapers (ok, it's not NY, but there are a few and the leaning towers of "Madrid Gate" in Plaza de Castilla are a curious sight from the Castellana avenue :) in downtown Madrid to 13th century Moorish palaces in Granada (Alhambra, you need to buy tickets in advance as tours are somehow restricted, 100 Km away from Malaga) or Sevilla (Alcazar, Catedral and Giralda tower) to landscapes of the Mancha plains.
There are a lot of beautiful places along the way (or slightly off the way) from Madrid to Malaga. You can see Frigiliana or Mijas towns in Malaga province, the big yatchs at Puerto Banus in Marbella (Costa del Sol main town), or just go to the beach and see the time passing by under the sun. You name it.
Anyway, feel free to ask for more details if you feel like it, or even call me if you decide to come to Sevilla.
Edit: Wikipedia is your friend...
