If you have a photo that shows skin and also pure white objects and the white objects look white and the skin looks the actual color of the skin, why would you be told your white balance is off?? And more specifically why would one person tell you it looks yellow and the next tell you it looks red? |

well, first of all not everyone moniters are calibrated. I think your getting this because of the way either yours or theirs moniters are calibrated wrong |

I use a ColorVision Spyder and all three of my monitors are calibrated as well as my laptop. My photos look the same on all monitors and print exactly as they look (both printers are profiled as well). And the skin looks exactly the same as it does in a mirror on all the photos.

Then the answer is simple. Those people are stupid. ;-)
Actually, a lot of things can cause people to perceive correct skin tones and white tones as tinted. This can range from the light in which they're viewing the photo, to the frame or border, to other elements in the photo that can skew their perception of its color. I frequently process a photo until I think it looks right, then look at it later and wonder why it has such a bad color caste. I guess that the bottom line is if it looks good to you and you know that it's technically correct, then the picture is fine.

I didn't realize how bad my challenge entry looked until I viewed it on my son's computer. His screen display was set a lot lighter than mine and showed up many yucky details of my background that my monitior just showes as darkness. Bet I check both before I submit next time. This may not help your situation, but it shows that different people are seeing different things. |
