I am checking into printers and am wondering what is the BEST printer for example that canon makes. I realize that best is going to be dependant on what i want it for... but lets say best for A4 sized photos. Making prints that are that a professional photo studio would be willing to sell.

With cameras i can manage my way through their different products. They have 4 DSLRs and each one has a specific target market and strengths.

However printers..... THERE ARE 20... why so many?

I'm not sure why Canon make so many models of printer....most seem pretty similar to me. I suppose it depends on how much time you want to wait and how much printing you want to do.

I have a hp photosmart 7660 and it eats ink. They all do really! If I was buying a new printer I'd go with one that you can buy a cartridge for each of the colours. So I'd advise getting one that takes 4 or more cartridges, black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Some have cartridges for light-cyan, light-magenta, and light-yellow too.

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of a printer with 8 ink cartridges.

Yeah I have checked out epson quite a bit and their life long inks seem like they are the best. I think if i were to buy one now I would probably go with the epson R800, unless i felt I had the budget for the R1800

I just saw an article about the new canon Pixma printers and how they suppoosidly have archival inks as well..... so i was wondering about those. Haven't seen any reviews yet tho.

Steve's Digicams seems to have very thorough reviews: steves-digicams.com/printers
