Just got my August issue of the Canon EOS newsletter :)

Canon has introduced two EOS cameras, two EF lenses and a Speedlite as part of its autumn collection of new products.

The camera receiving the most attention is the EOS 5D.
This has a full-frame sensor, capturing the same field-of-view from EF lenses as 35mm film cameras. Canon says that it belongs in a new D-SLR category, appealing both to enthusiast and professional photographers. Think of it as the digital equivalent to the EOS 3.

introduced September 2005

â€Â¢ 12.8 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor
â€Â¢ 3fps continuous shooting
â€Â¢ Burst rate of 60 frames (Large JPEG)
â€Â¢ High-performance DIGIC II
â€Â¢ High resolution 2.5 inch LCD monitor
â€Â¢ 9-point autofocus system with six invisible assist AF points
â€Â¢ Picture Style pre-sets
â€Â¢ Custom mode for fast recall of user-defined camera set-ups
â€Â¢ Top shutter speed of 1/8000 second (X-sync at 1/200 second)
â€Â¢ USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and Video Out interface
â€Â¢ Lightweight magnesium alloy exterior
â€Â¢ Digital Photo Professional (DPP) RAW file processing software
â€Â¢ Compatible with Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1

This ground-breaking camera combines a full frame CMOS sensor with a lightweight, compact magnesium alloy body. Weighing just 810 grams, it features a second generation 35.8 x 23.9 mm CMOS sensor, 3 frames per second continuous shooting with a 60 frame burst (with Large JPEG quality), and a 0.2 second start up time.

Marking five years since Canon̢۪s first CMOS image sensor appeared in the EOS D30, the release represents Canon̢۪s fifth new CMOS sensor to be released since April 2004. CMOS sensors are a critical technology advantage driving Canon̢۪s rapid digital SLR development.

Equivalent in size to a frame of 35mm film, the camera̢۪s 35.8 x 23.9mm CMOS sensor gives photographers a full angle-of-view from EF lenses without magnification or cropping effect. It provides tighter control over depth-of-field and improves image quality by capturing more light with its large pixels.

The second new camera is the EOS-1D Mark II N
which replaces the EOS 1D Mark II. Among several new or improved features is a high performance buffer which delivers a 48 frame burst in JPEG (22 frame burst in RAW).

introduced October 2005

â€Â¢ 8.2 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor
â€Â¢ 8.5fps continuous shooting
â€Â¢ Burst rate of 48 frames (Large JPEG)
â€Â¢ High-performance DIGIC II
â€Â¢ High resolution 2.5 inch LCD monitor
â€Â¢ 45-point autofocus system
â€Â¢ Picture Style pre-sets
â€Â¢ Metering modes include spot and multispot
â€Â¢ Photo effects include monochrome (with filter and toning effects)
â€Â¢ Low level card format option for secure image file deletion
â€Â¢ Foldercreation and selection is possible
â€Â¢ Top shutter speed of 1/8000 second (X-sync at 1/250 second)
â€Â¢ 21 Custom Functions and 27 Personal Functions
â€Â¢ Sound memo (up to 30 seconds per image)
â€Â¢ Digital Photo Professional (DPP) RAW file processing software
â€Â¢ Compatible with EF lenses and EX-series Speedlites
â€Â¢ Compatible with Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1

An upgrade of the award winning EOS-1D Mark II. Still featuring 8.2 Megapixel performance at 8.5 frames per second, the upgraded camera has a higher performance buffer to deliver a 48 frame burst in JPEG and 22 frame burst in RAW. LCD monitor size increases from 2.0 inches to a 2.5 inches, and dual CF and SD memory card slots provide for separate RAW and JPEG recording. Colour Matrix and parameter settings are replaced with Canon’s new Picture Style six pre-sets that simplify in-camera control over image optimisation and processing.

The lenses are EF 24-105mm f4L IS USM and EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM. The light weight of the 24-105mm lens makes it ideal for news, reportage and any type of travel photography. The 70-300mm lens will appeal to nature and sports photographers.

Finally, the Speedlite 430EX replaces the 420EX. The new model is fully compatible with the distance-linked E-TTL II system found on recent EOS cameras (including the new EOS 5D and 1D Mark II N), but is also compatible with earlier models.

I predict 4 or 5 more threads a week for at least another month.

Sorry I did not see a thread link with Canon's Offical link and anouncement :)

OK I counted 6 threads so far. Any takers on the closet guess on how many threads total will be started on this subject this month. I will offer a free 8X10 print of mine to the person that guesses the closet to the number without going over.
