I hope that this site is more than a self-admiration club. That it is possible to question and to take risks. So, 'bpickard' are you saying that prior to this challenge the entries have not been that good? Are you being critical of the quality of entries? As for you 'overclover' it is clear where you stand. It is always a good strategy to ignore and dismiss anything that might challenge the 'common' thought and you do seem to have plenty of that! :-)

Yes, you may get the same feel from all three of the winners.
Yes, they may have been taken with the same camera (they weren't)
Yes, the rain is subtle (in two it's in the distance)
Are these observations relevant? Yes.
Are they relevant in relation to the quality of the images? I don't think so.
Are the winners an indication that all entries are the same? Absolutely not.
What can you learn from the winners?
1) Camera settings
2) Point of view
3) Perspective
4) Lighting
5) Composition
... and probably a number of other things.
Everyone gets a different feel from an image so asking how a photographer has generated your feeling from the image is a difficult question and is probably not answerably by the photographer since the feeling they get is different.

No - this challenge was particularly good.
and
Some photographs I like and some photographs I don't. So I am being critical of each individual photograph by definition. However, this is based on my subjective opinion and so may or may not be linked to their quality. |

Well, psychologically speaking, repetitive behaviors like coming here all the time, narrow focus on subjects, wandering off by ones self, taking risks to enhance a narrow focus on subjects, spending hours at repetitive tasks, pressing an update button, staying up after midnight and only working with a few pieces of equipment is classified as being autistic.
I mean artistic.
This may also explain why the three photos seem to have come from the same camera due to rationalizing an environment which is scape of people with similar interest.
;-)
PS. Did I mention how happy I was about a picture of rain being in the top 5?

Michael- Are you saying that people needed to get their cameras wet in order to meet the challenge? My camera was wet and there were drop actually falling, can't see'em....but at the same time, I didn't realize that the description meant "hard rain falling on your head need only apply". Come to think of it the top three entries met the challenge perfectly by "being careful with their equipment" and NOT getting it wet. How smart were they?

This is one of many statements you make that shows your bitterness towards the winning entries.
You only changed your approach to Soni and others once you realized that you were wrong. To disguise your insults between actual curiosity of how they did that isn't clever it is as I said before stupid. You love an argument and this is the last you will get from me on this subject I think I said it perfectly well the first time.
Most of these photographers have spent hour upon hour upon hour and alot of money in learning their chosen craft and have a deep love of it. They didn't start out as winners they earned it. and for you to belittle that is disgusting.
If you were truly curious and only curious you would have simply said that in the first place and not veil your insults between the excuse of wanting to learn and not understanding. Your stupidity is in not realizing and trying to convince everyone else who can plainly see you are indeed guilty as charged and bitter and argumentative. It is not the winners faults you didn't win or haven't won. thats what makes you indeed STUPID. |
Thank you!!!
This guy seems to want to learn but yet keeps asking the same question over and over just placing the words differently.
azoychka~you state that you are only wanting to learn? hrmm.. how do I put this nicely..you are obviously a smart guy and knowledgable, right? It seems you should beable to figure all this out by yourself. Stop trying to play games and just listen to the actually post not just read them, unless of course you are here to start an arguement.
I am done telling you how I did this and refuse to keep tryin to validate my shot. YES, there is rain in the shot..you have to be blind not to see it or even feel it when viewing the image and YES the picture is mine nobody elses.

I am sorry to be taken so 'literally'. When I said from the same camera of course I was refering to a similar look. It would be a fair assumption to say that if you enter a challenge you are opening yourself to criticism both postivie and, possibly, negative. I hope that all comments would be helpful but also that some might be thought provoking and 'challenge' us to be reflective.

'sonifo' please follow the line of thought from me and other posters. I did not start the rain thing I was only adding to it. I do not believe rain had to be falling from the sky to fit the challenge. I was NOT refering to your picture. And I would appreciate you not taking this all so personal. I did not critcize you but I did wonder about your photo. It is a challenge right?

Thank God my Rain entry doesn't look like any of the top three! I would hate to be clumped in with any of those....

I have not criticized anyone on this site. I have of a photo in a challenge.......yes sort of. Pretty much I lump a few together........I'm nice like that. It is others that have taken this personally and called me names etc. I assume that it is easier to attack someone rather than have to reflect on what you are doing................

There seems to be a certain 'quality' or 'finish' to many of the ribbon photos. Not all for sure, but many. On the homepage when the three ribboners are side by side and small, they sort of have the tendancy to blend together.............

You want me to come over and your butt? You are part of this conversation because your photo is in the top 5.
