| Okay, I voted on photos in a challenge that are supposed to be anonymous but the photographer commented back to me in an e-mail. I think if you want to comment on a comment you should wait until voting is over. What's to say I wouldn't change my vote because I know who shot it now? Doesn't make sense to me. Do a lot of people do this? |

| If you don't want to receive replies to comments during challenge voting, then you need to change your settings to be anonymous. Otherwise, you will probably receive comments on your comments. |

| I responded to a coment during voting once (won't get into the details), but I agree, as a rule it's best to wait until after the challenge is over. By the way Lissylou, I just commented on a photo of yours and then I saw this post! "This is like de ja' vue all over again" |

I receive comments regarding my comments during a voting period. Sometimes, the comments help me a bit to understand what the photographer is trying to convey. However for the most part, they do not reveal who or what their image is. I think it's better that way. Personal biases play into voting sometimes but I don't let that affect the way I vote. If an image meets the challenge or exceeds it I rate accordingly. If the image is a DNMC entry then I let them know why I gave they a low score. If it's a lot of entries, I skip those particular images. It's amazing how when you start to comment on ALL the entries, you'll start to understand some of the images more clearly. It's easy to say, "Great image!" than to give someone comments, constructuve comments, regarding their image if it doesn't meet the challenge. Some images are conceptually great but technically bad. I try to comment on a constructive level on how to improve those images at least IMHO. I would say I receive PMs regarding my comments 1 for every 50 that I give.
Sorry it's a bit long.

sometimes i tell the photographer to feel free to PM me because i am missing something - and it generally turns out its my ignorance that missed it & im glad i did ask.
Honestly if you dont wear a bag, you cant complain if you get replies. |

| It's not so much that I care that someone responded but they got mad at me for my comment...I really was trying to be helpful not a big jerk. |

oh the angry PM - you have to learn to ignore them, people get attached to thier images. I'm surprised i don't see more angry PMs as much as i annoy people on the boards.
No one thinks youre a jerk Lissylou - in fact you left a really nice comment on my nude entry :D |

And then you got mad at their comment of your comment. It's a big ol cycle. Realize that the people in the photos could be wives, husbands, or even themselves! People are going to take these photos personally and therefor take the comments personally. Not saying you have to sugar coat, but definately a challenge to be very careful of the words you chose. |

Good advice. You can make a comment about not liking a picture and why without being rude in the way you say it. |
