I am in the market for more memory for my digi-cam, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Kingston Compact Flash Elite Pro cards? I was thinking of buying a 512MB card, but I've never had any experience with Kingston.
Thanks in advance, Dan |

They're pretty good. Not the absolute fastest, but respectable and reliable. |

I got a 1Gb one from zipzoomfly a month or so ago for $60. It is rated speedwise about the same as sandisk UltraII but priced more like the regular sandisk cards.
Ihave heard good things and have had only good luck with mine.

I just bought a Kingston 2gb Elite Pro 50x for $80 (after $50 in rebates) from Buy.com. I've used it a few times without any troubles. I can't really see a change in speed (from my reg. Sandisk cards)...but that could just be me. I haven't had it long enough to tell you much about it. I've only heard good things about Kingston (and was told here that they've sold computer memory for years) and all reviews online were positive as well.
Here's a recent thread for you:

Er, no, it's significantly slower, but Kingston is at least known for reliability.
On a 20D, the Kingston Ultra Pro 1GB writes RAW at 3.75 MB/sec. The UltraII 1GB writes RAW at 5.65 MB/sec.

I now have 3 of them just brought 2 of them a month ago. The first one had is great and fast no problems at all. I like them alot. I have three 1gb's called Elite Pro, one came with the camera the other two I got from previous links here that were specials found by dpc'ers.

Their elite pro is 10Mb.sec read and 8/mb sec write.

Dpreview quotes sandisk Ultra II at 9mb/sec write and 10mb/sec read.

here is a data base of CF card speeds with different cameras
just select your camera from the drop down list and a list of different cards will show with the top 10% speed wise highlighted in blue
they note that cards that are within 5% of each other are basically the same due to testing variables
and differences of up to 10% would not be noticed by a normal photographer in the field
//www.robgalbraith.com (camera speed)
these were write speeds in camera not transfer to computer speeds
here are the computer transfer speeds

Thank you all for your opinions/reviews. I think I'll head down tomorrow and pick up a card. :) |

That's the maximum speed the cards are rated at under laboratory conditions. They bear no resemblance to real-world performance. The Rob Galbraith link that I provided, and that Firsty provided again, show actual measurements in real cameras. |
