Here are a few more from the aquarium. We'll probably have another excursion soon.

I have this thread on my Watched list -- if we all do, it will be easy enough to call it back up whenever someone has an idea for another outing.
It would be nice to alternate between East and West Bay destinations (there was an earlier outing to Mt. Diablo). I'd also like to try to have most accessible by public transportation.
Lawrence Hall of Science and the UC Campus will work if it's not hazy -- the esplanade looks right at the Golden Gate. Some cool architecture on campus, and animatronic dinosaurs (about 2/3-scale) will be at LHS in October.
Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland is home to the country's oldest bird sanctuary, and boat rentals are available. It's also close to most of the old government buildings and Chinatown.
The Berkeley Marina has a lot of kite fliers and often sailboarders and boaters, and a long pier (it used to go halfway to Alcatraz!), with views of the Golden Gate, Bay, and Richmond-San Rafael Bridges.
In San Francisco, I'd like to go to the old ships by the Maritime Museum, walk on the Golden Gate bride, go inside the Conservatory of Flowers, maybe the Zoo, maybe Chinatown (was there recently), maybe check out the construction/destruction at the old Academy in the Park, along with the Tea Garden and Arboretum. |

Alternating between east/west sounds like a good idea. Let me also add that an occasional foray farther south would be all right with me, too :)
The Berkeley Marina sounds like the most attractive spot to me from those that you suggest. (edit: WRT the East Bay, as we were in SF yesterday. I'd love to go to GG park/tea gardens/etc, but for now I figure we're looking more eastward.)
I'd like to raise the possibility of doing something in the later part of the day that goes into the evening, which would give us all a chance to get some sunset and early night shots. A meeting around 5 or 6 would give us plenty of time to get together, hang out, and get acquainted with the location before the light really starts to change.
Mid-September?

Unless you have a spectacular sunset, the East Bay isn't so good in the evening, at least if you want to shoot towards SF -- backlighting and haze and the glare from the Bay make it hard to get good shots. Remember it's going to be getting really dark a lot earlier soon. And the end of September would be a more likely prospect for me ...
