I have a used 300d that is about 1.5 years old that I bought from someone who bought it at Futureshop with an extended warranty until December 2007...

So here's my question...I want to upgrade to a 20d or 1dmkII soon. The simplest thing to do would be to sell the drebel and use the money towards an upgrade, but I've heard that when Futureshop gets a warranty item in they often replace it with a brand new one. So obviously, if I continue to use the Drebel for another 2 years it's bound to fail at some point, right?

Should I just keep it and use it and when it fails hope to get a new camera from Futureshop? Does anyone have experience with them as far as DSLR extended warranties go? I know of at least one person who got a brand new RebelXT because their Rebel failed within the warranty period.

Love to hear your thoughts on this, please post below...maybe I'm being an idiot.

I bought an extended warrenty on another camera and the rule is applied like this. IF they cannot fix it they will replace it with equal or great value camera. IF it goes into the shop they will upgrade it to the next model for free. since they do NOT sell the camera you want you will probably end up with a rebel xt at best. Then you can always sell it and put that money towards your purchase.

PLEASE NOTE THE "IF'S"

What I would do si go into Future Shop as a customer looking at the rebel xt and inquire about an extended warranty..what does it include, what are the restrictions, how does it work etc..then you will know the ground rules..make sure to ask if the warranty can be passed on to another person.

It can. Its called a "transferable warrenty". Kinda of like buying a car that still has warrenty left. The rest is a valid point.

Yeah, I know the warranty can be passed along and I know that what I stated about the warranty is true...just wondering if what I'm saying makes sense or if I should just cash it in now...
