Good Customer Service - B&H and OneCall

Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC for Canon

a couple weeks ago, i ordered some stuff from from b&h, including a 24-70 F/2.8L. unfortunately, something was wrong with it and it wouldn't mount. so i called b&h and got an rma. they also provided me a shipping label. no hassles. but, because the lens is not in stock, i had to take a refund. not exactly what i wanted, but all the same, another example of b&h doing what they can to get it right.

using the dpc link to pricegrabber, i found a number of vendors, including PC Connection, Beach Camera and OneCall.com. i checked each out with resellerratings.com. PC Connection was the lowest, and seemed to be the wildcard. As Beach and OneCall both are rated 9+, i decided to try OneCall, since their price nearly $60 less than Beach's.

i got through to a sales rep pretty quickly, and asked about the lens; with no hesitation (meaning he didn't have time to look it up before responding) he said, "that one's been a tough one to keep in." i knew i was talking to someone who had a clue.

i told him i needed it by thursday (it was only a $10 bump in shipping to go 2nd day), and he assured me that it was not an issue. he also told me to call my credit card company to have them put in a service note that OneCall would be calling to verify my shipping address.

at the moment, i'm pretty impressed; my final impression, though, will hinge on whether or not i'm shooting with a new 24-70 thursday evening. if this works out the way it's been scripted, it will be good to know there is an alternative to b&h, for situations like this.

Great "report" Skip. I've shopped at OneCall quite often as they have great deals all the time and I have nothing but praise for these folks. I actually got my 20D from them. I got it for far less than the going price and received it within 4 days :)

now it would appear that all i have to worry about is whether or not i get a good copy or a bad copy of the lens...

I'm going to buy a 1Ds Mark II this evening from CAI Camera. I buy from B&H quite often and have no problem if an item is a few dollars more with them because of thier reliablity and great service. This body, however, is $726 less at CAI then it is at B&H.

Although I've never dealt with Onecall, I see great reports of them quite often on the DPReview boards. Gotta remember to keep them in mind... thanks for the report Skip!
