Another vote in for Gitzo. The quality of their tripods is really great.
I went for a Gitzo G1348 with a Arca-Swiss B1 and ReallyRightStuff QR plates for camera and lenses. Pretty expensive stuff but definetely worth it. |

Amen to that! Shooting the Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend. 40,000 cars and 1.7 million people. A 16 mile parking lot.

Here is a search for gitzo on ebay Here.
A gitzo will last much longer than you will so a used one is not really a risk. Ballheads on a budget check out giottos or FLM at B&H Photo. Both can be upgraded to Arca Swiss system down the road, which as others here have stated is by far the best system out there. Yes, some of this equipment sounds expensive, but remember it will out last your next ten cameras.
Arca Swiss and related products can be found at Really Right Stuff and Kirk Photo. Novoflex makes compatable accessories but are WAY over priced. |
