if i wanted to use someone's idea for a challenge is there any problem in doing so? i see in some challenges, several people try to duplicate or create similiar photos from shots that have previously won a challenge.

is there no problem in doing so as long as i mention that i was using someone's idea?

It is not illegal to copy an idea. In essence, EVERY photo is a copy of an idea or someone elses photo. Be warned though, that I have seen 'copycat' photos marked down cause 'we've seen this a million times before'. If you look at some of the copied photos most will have an 'unoriginal' comment on them.
Definately legal though.
