I need to do a few written (wedding/barmitzvah) estimates for clients and would love to get some ideas.
Can anyone show me what theirs look like?
Also if you know of some good sites to get examples of contracts and estimates, that would help too.
Do i need a lawyer to help do my contracts? or is it ok to more or less cut and paste from existing contracts from others to create my own?

get a lawyer. each state has it's own rules. for example, here in PA 'deposit' is refundable regardless of what you say in the contract. 'retainer' is something that is non-refundable. there are lots of 'gothcas' out there, and if you get sued they will have seen a lawyer so you should too!
estimates?? an estimate is when you are estimating the price, becuase you do not know the final price. Generally with weddings it is 'pacjage a' or 'package b' for $x. Perhaps you write out an invoice -
5 hours of coverage $600
100 proofs, 4x6 withing 3 weeks, $200
20 page album, customers choice of pics/sizes up to 40 images, leather craftsman cover in white $800
-$1600 total. $800 due as retainer now, balance due 14 days before wedding date.
Some folks think it is a good idea to specify which pcs or people to take, others think that is a bad idea.
as for contracts - do some googling for wedding photographers. many have contracts on their sites. read them over and see what you want in uyour contract.
spend some time at //www.fredmiranda.com in the wedding forums there -much more info than you'll get here on this subject.

I stole my contract from another photographer. You don't need a lawyer persay, you just need to make sure you're covering your ass..even in case things are actually your fault. Prof_Fate makes good points, but in my contract I state flat out my deposit is non-refundable (except under certain terms which are also outlined).
I charge a flat fee of $1500 for a day up to the reception. An extra $150 to shoot till 10pm (or the first dance), or $100 to shoot for 1/2hr at the reception, $150 for negs, and $0.40/km of travel. That includes 200-300 4x6 prints. I used to do it hourly but was losing out on smaller jobs.
Fine print: 1/3 deposit due at signing to hold wedding date and is non-refundable. 1/3 due on wedding day, last 1/3 due when photos are ready. Travel to be paid no later than 2 weeks prior to event. Etc...

thanks for the info...
what i was hoping to see were actual examples of how your estimates are laid out.
As far as what to charge...that will always be different from business to business and geographic area, etc.
I am looking more to the actual look and esthetics of it.

In pennsylvania 'deposit' is legally defined as refundable. You cannot change that, no matter how you phrase 'non-refundable'. If you say non-refundable deposit and the customer goes to any court/lawyer/arbitration/judge in PA, you will be refunding it, all of it.
Each state varies on what is and is not allowed, and the proper way to phrase it. If you want a legal contract, one that can be enforced, one that is favorable to you, then go see a lawyer. Hopefully you'll never have to test the validity of the contract, but you never know.
All you need is someone to go off and make illegal use of your wedding photos (it DOES happen) and when you try to stop them, you'll show your contract...if it is deemed null and void and unenforceable because yo tried to save $200 on a lawyer, you're gonna regret it.
Also condiser copyright - you 'borrow' a contract without permission...you just violated their copyright!
