I have seen several ebay auctions for this discontinued Canon lens go for prices in the $800-$900 range. Can someone please tell me how much it went for new?. Is it worth the going price on ebay?

Dunno how much it went for new, but when you consider that the description of the 24-70 L is that it achieves what was tought impossible; improving on the 28-70 L, that speaks pretty highly of the 28-70 L.

Since a new 24-70 L is only about $250 more, I'll spend the extra to get the wider FOV & warranty.

Most pro level lenses on ebay seem to go for near new prices. For me, it's not worth it. Whether it is for you or not is very individual question that only you can answer.

That link you posted is for the 24-70L. The original inquiry was about the price for a used 28-70L, the predecessor to the 24-70

Oh, sorry, my mistake. I didn't even know there was a 28-70L before the 24-70 came out. :)

Fred Miranda did a shootout between the 24-70, the 28-70 and (I forget which) a 50mm prime. The 24-70mm did beat the older version.

Bumped for a later audience. Must be somebody out there who bought one of these lenses new back when they were a current model. How much did it cost you?
