Iv just ordered Sigma 50mm 2.8 DC EX Macro for canon.. its 55mm and i ordered a IR filter to this lens.
I want to do some IR Work. and im thinking which Lens i should get it to.

I have 28-135 IS Canon.. but the filter size is 72mm and IR Filter cost like 262$, i also have the 18-55 canon which is 58mm ,but i thought to get it for the new sigma since it has 2.8 and as the review says and some people here in dpc it has great quality and contrast... and they say you can use it for portraits and nature... so am i doing a mistake here and i should order it for the other lense to take some Landcape IR too.. or it will be crazy to say i can take nature/landscape with the 50mm Macro?!?!?!

please give advice..

p.s
i ordered HOYA... anybody think its not a good brand..

B&H has an 72mm IR filter for $126. Your best bet is to get that and use step down rings with your other lenses.Step down rings can be had for around $10.

This is what I did... I have the Sigma 18-200, which is only 62mm. Then I bought step down rings so that I can use my IR filter with all my lenses.

Hoya R72 @55mm cannot cost more than $30 or someone is trying to cheat you. B+W is expensive, but not Hoya.

I've got the sigma 50mm macro, very nice little lens :o) I've not got an IR filter for it, but I was looking for a 67mm one a couple of days ago, and found that eBay can aften be a good source for reasonable price R72 filters.

I really like it... does it mean i dont really need to buy a polorizer too.. can i just use the step down ring?

is there any problem with that?

If you don't have a polarizer already then the answer is yes. Just buy the one that fits your larges lens and step down rings for the rest.
