I have been asked to do a 16 year old's party this Saturday. The theme is fantasy. I am so excited but would love some ideas as to poses etc.
Any info would be great.
Thanks Lisa

I'll start by saying that I have never been paid to take photos....but...

When I take birthday party pic...I take tons b/c digital is free...

I take close ups...group..parents...mostly candid...hardly ever set up. I get rid of the junk and keep the good and distribute to the people who were at the party....always get GREAT responses...they can't imagine how they can't get the same kind of shots that I get...

HOWEVER...I usually throw in about a dozen that I photoshoped. Usually doing background radial blurs and some "desaturation" while leaving the subjects in full color....

Let me see some when you're done.

Thanks,

Kenny

thanks! it isnt a paid job but that is ok, cause they thought to ask me and i am really looking forward to the experience of it all. Candids definately but i also want to try some crazy ones considering they are going to be in fantasy gear with tons of makeup etc

When I do set ups I usually like them close in on the subject and/or the makeup/costume.

and to keep blabbing on....I also do a few long exposures...some really come out good and inpress the simple minded!

That's cool Lisa!

Are you expecting it to be indoors or outdoors?

I have some short points I got from the talented KarenB, which I'll PM when I get home.

the party is going to be indoors and outdoors. I am really excited. Wish i had more memory though. I may have to try and get some before Saturday. So far i know there is a spiral staircase inside, and a huge tree outside. So there is some good places to get some shots.
Because most of them will be dressing goth, i thought i may get one of the guys to stand at the top of the staircase and look down at me. Maybe have lights out (yes i am taking the tripod) LOL. Or peeping from around the tree. I am thinking menacing looks for some reason. I dont really want too many posed shots. I also thought perhaps get the birthday girl to be chased by friends down the beach. (cause of the way they are dressing it would be a strange sight)
Anyone got some more ideas?

How much memory do you have, and what are you intending to do with the pics?

I shot an event a while ago for a pro event photography company. They told me to use Small/Fine because the 10D gets great pics from that size for 7x5.

If you're short on space, I might suggest using smaller images (always on Fine).

Edit: Corrected me using a 10D, not in fact my 300D..

i have a 64m, 16m, and a 128m. I am not sure what they want done with the pics yet. I am pretty sure that it is just to watch on the computer/tv and perhaps get some printed. I wouldnt imagine they would want to print them too big. I am going to talk to the mum tomorrow so i will find out then
