I am a newb trying to edit my first challenge entry. I use Paint Shop Pro 9 to edit. PSP9 has a blur adjustment function called radial blur. Would this adjustment fall into OK for basic editing or be considered an illegal filter? |

Probably "legal" but may not score well if it doesn't accent the photo... |

thnx for the response. maybe I'll try it & see what happens. Might not score well anyway compared to some of the shots I've seen on this site. |

might want to wait for a better response...from a site council member, I think it's a selective filter, and thus illegal.

I am almost certain it would be illegal. Really, it is better to err on the side of simplicity with basic. It states in Basic Rules:
"However, no effects filters may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur, which are allowed"
Since it specifically stated Gaussian Blur and not Radial Blur, I would say it is illegal, because radial blur asserts a mathematical assumption in its blur. Best of results with your first challenge.

Yeah, I agree w/ Cutter. For basic editing, you are not able to use any filters in post processing, w/ a few exceptions, but radial blur is not one of them. Good luck!

OK, so no radial blur. (Too bad as it would make up for the depth of field I didn't adjust correctly for the shot) I still have a couple more days though so I better keep on the hunt and see if I can get another shot I like more.
I had a look at some of your work Cutter and I really liked your entry for Free Study VIII. left a comment. |

illegal in basic. Depending on how it's used in advanced, it could be illegal in advanced as well. |

What Heather said. It's legal in Advanced Editing, but not Basic, and only if its use doesn't obscure major elements or create new objects. |

Thanks for the comments. I actually like that photo and think that my idea behind the photo was ahead of my skills. glad your question was answered.
