if you have taken someone eles picture and altered it and want to show them the change how do you post it into the thread?- I don't want to add it to my portfolio -- but is that the only way?

add it to your "workshop" folder.

Yep.. well, you could host it somewhere else and then create a small thumbnail and link to that using the image - but the portfolio is 10x easier than that. You can always add it to your 'workshop' folder, which won't allow anybody to see it on your profile page or while browsing your portfolio.

thanks a million--- by the way -- anyone out there want o tell me what the heck " bump" is-- I know dumb question?

Every time a thread is replied to it moves to the top of the heap where people wandering in can see it. The site is so active that threads drop off the front page in a matter of an hour most of the time during prime viewing hours. Less, sometimes.

A thread is 'bumped' back to the top of the recent threads list.

Other ways of saying the same thing are 'TTT' -- "To The Top" and '^^^' -- "arrows pointing up".

I heard it actually stands for Bring Up My Post...could be urban legend but sounds about right.
