I'm still here and standing by as well. Here's one I took recently while sitting at a traffic light, downtown.

I believe that is the Hyatt - I stayed there for a conference back in '99. Took this from my balcony with my Kodak DC-40 (sub 1MP):

Left a comment for ya.

Oh, yes. It's the Hyatt. You have a good view of the Embarcadero, under construction then, complete and all beautiful now. You also have a good view of the Vallencourt Fountain. The late columnist, Herb Caen, once said, when we were getting used to the Fountain, that it looked like something a dog with square intestines would leave behind. However, we've grown to love it now, and when it was fenced off because of vandalism, etc. the outcry forced the spiffing up and reopening of it.

Hahaha. I grew up in the Bay Area - I remember Herb Caen. He is right.

Ok - are you ready to get focused and back to work?

I emailed banmorn to inquire about his absence. He acknowledged that he was "inundated" and would be back possibly after next weekend. In the mean time - I have been given his blessing to "lead" us. Let's keep this group together.

With your blessings and cooperation, we will keep moving forward. Now, I am not an expert by any means but I do have some time to do the research necessary to keep us moving. In fact, I have already checked out a few books from the library on the subject. I also have a whole list of ideas.

So far in the group we have posted an initial architecture image to the thread, a macro/micro images, and an architectural comparison image. At this point I would like to propose

Assignment #4Details! Most of what we have seen so far is that of large pieces or structures. Often times it is the detail that makes a structure. I think it would be interesting to shot the details of structures. Post a picture or two by Sunday when I will offer another assignment.

An example -

And continue to comment on works posted . . .

Delighted that you are keeping this forum alive, Jeileen. I'll get some images together tomorrow and post.

Details is fine, but it's basically the same as macro/micro.

I kind of agree.

Jeileen, in order to distuinguish the two and still stay on the track you presented, I would instead call it "Architectural Textures" based on the image you posted.

Thanks for picking up the slack Jeileen! :)

Well here are a few images, more or less on that track.
It's foggy in San Francisco and surroundings. But not wet enough to qualify for a "rain" photo.
In Santa Cruz, yesterday I was at this old lighthouse. When looking for details to photograph, I found the bug & couldn't resist it:

This morning, I wandered downtown and ended up at the deserted SBC Stadium. Not a bad time to get photos, except for the bald sky...

I really like these shots. In fact, I like most of what is on your website. Seems though that you have the same fortune as Banmorn as far as being in Philadelphia. I definitely think this city has an abundance of photographic opportunities; taking nothing away from the quality of your work.

Architectural images are often presented in black and white to emphasize the texture and tones of a structure.
Assignment #5 Let's capturing some of those textures and tones through a black and white finish.
My attempt at this assignment:
edit: Let's shoot for Thursday to finish this one.

some edited versions of one of my chalenge entry outtakes:

I think #2 is a bit too soft maybe. I used Gothic Glow on it and then converted to duotone and tweaked levels.

I'm going to squeak in a few more 'detail' shots here as I did get to a great place for them yesterday...
....

and to cross-post, there were good pickings at SF MOMA yesterday too. Including this one:

Okay, now I'll get on to the next assignment. Thanks Jeileen for keeping this going.
