Is it just me or does the vast majority of people on this site honestly think that their pictures are better than the rest. I think if people spent less time crying about score and titles and everything else and more time studying images here that they would be able to see the difference in a quality shot compared to their own.
I'm sorry but I need to throw this out here: Photography is all about having a great eye and if you can't see for yourself what makes a photo great and why one that you took does not do so well, than maybe the problem is not with the people that vote, but rather lies within the fact that you need to develop your eye a bit more so that you can distinguish. And I think it needs to be realized that some of us will never ever develop that eye for photography. If it was that easy than everybody would be a professional and we would all be rich taking pics!
Stop all your bitching... and go take some pictures. Maybe if you stop loving yourself so much and the pictures that you take then you will start to understand FOR YOURSELF where you need to improve.
Sorry.. had to get that off my shoulders.
And let me just beat you to the punch... no I don't think mine are better, yes I do need MUCH improvement and no this is not directed ay anybody specifically.
Now step away from the computer... go pick up a camera.... go someplace fun and go take some pictures. Not because you NEED TO for a challenge, but because you want to... for yourself!

Dude I added you to my fav's.
I think the bigest whinners are the people who consider them selves the out of the box thinkers. I was reading a whiners thread where they where comparing themselves to Picaso. (roll eyes)
Out of the Box is being confused with irrelevance with some people. I applaud a creative take on a challenge. But if it has nothing to do with what the challenge it self, (outside of the title) then 1 it is.
I don't care personaly if you take a picture of a rock for a water challenge and are happy with it...good. But it drives me up the wall when they start a thread compaining that people take these challenges to literaly and water is to boring.
THAT's the CHALLENGE! Water - take the best most creative photo you can of WATER!

No... most people ARE NOT trying to learn (at least the ones bitching). Just read all the rant threads about why people are getting low scores. What people are trying to do is change the way people vote so that their feelings are not hurt. If people were trying to learn they would stop giving a crap about the score in some challenge and rather what can help them take better pics. Instead of seeing all these threads bitching about irrelevant things like titles, you would see all the mentorship threads popping with posts. And you really think that all people cared about learningm, then how do you explain all the people that bitch about titles and stuff when in fact it really has NOTHING to do with learing or even photography for that matter.
A lot of people here are just looking to get a high score so they can boost their self-esteem.. plaina nd simple.
And let me note that this only does apply to a few people. There are a lot more people on here that I really admire and are the reason that I paid the membership fee and signed up!

I tried (and most likely failed) to make this very point a while back when someone PM'd me about a comment I gave stating his image didn't fit the challenge. I did however comment on the rest of the image but voted them down for not meeting the REQUIREMENTS.
I asked them if they were submitting for an actual contest where expensive prizes were to be won would they really go outside the box like this and risk losing? I'm sure not. I too understand going away from the norm (I'm learning that probably the most here) but come on!
(I just remembered that my minimalism submission could be considered one of these very items we speak of, but the flag was really supposed to be my main focus I just rushed it and messed it up.)
Great post Jaywalk

Why yes, yes I do. (shouldn't this be a retorical question???)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhh maybe thats why I suck at photography. I love myself to much.
Damn notonline for a dog headed east you sure look like the west end.
I don't think my problem is loving myself to much, I could care less about anything or anybody. I understand your need to vent to a lot of people you've never met before and probably never will. My advice to you is to go have a beer, smoke a joint, pull your pud or go for a walk and cool down before you have a heart attack. Relax mate, life is long enough without ending it earily.

Do the scores even matter??? If you get a blue ribbon will it change your life??? How the hell do the all the "negative" comments really effect anything in the grand scheme of your life???
JUST GO HAVE FUN PEOPLE!!!
And notonline... the only thing that bothers me is that I have to sift through the garbage posts lately to get to the ones where there is actually goon information. I could care less if some people want to cry their eyes out because they took an out of focus picture of a leaf for a fire challenge and blamed people for not being creative a thinking!

But, those are not the conditions under which these challenges are run. Nor are the challenge descriptions intended to be limiting in the narrow literalist sort of way a few people desire.
I haven't seen anyone complain about their score in these numerous threads; I've heard some people "complain" about some other people's attitudes or perspectives. |

sorry general I should have noted that they were WAY outside the challenge description. It was in the metal challenge and their item was painted silver to look metal but giving its subject there was no way it was, they even admitted it to not being metal but they were trying to go out of the box. You are also correct in your last comment, there is a lot of that.

I didn;t look very hard, just went to the last page of a rant thread and found this:
"mine has a name and the year and is a great shot... i don't understand how i get the ' great shot , beautiful image, lovely photo, but doesn't meet the challenge', and still end up with 4.8, to me i have the name of the photo, the year, and is great to look at.....go figure... "
I'm done now... so everybody ready to see that NE Patriots kick some ass tonight in pre-season football! Whoot Whoot!

I'm still waiting for someone to post how unfair it was that they got a 10 on an image when it was clearly only worth a 7.
These whiners want to take a risk by "Thinking outside the box", yet they are not willing to pay the consequences associated with such risk-taking.

uhm...yeah, I agree...if people spent less time CRYING AND WHINING AND MOANING about everything else, they could actually get better...you're pretty smart. Quite a contradiction though.
