Does anyone have contact information for a Canon support representative that they work with?

It looks like I am going to have to ship my camera & lens out for servicing/repair/replacement. And frankly, I am finding the regular channels of support to be sub-par.

Just take a drive and come to toronto for a week. They have a canon office right in mississauga.

Take it you had a similar issue nbsca7 ???

It's going to cost me $100 to ship. And I swear, if I get it back and have the same problems. *growl*

Of all the Canon gear I own or have owned in the past I've only had problems with one lens and one body. The lens had to be shipped twice and stayed out of my hands for a period exceeding 5 weeks before the problem was resolved. The body was shipped to Canon five times for the same problem, was lost once, and took 9 months altogether between down time, repair time and shipping. When it came back the final time I sold it.

I elevated my issue (always ask to talk to the boss because they guy you are talking to usually can't do anything...). They sent me a shipping label that was second day air and they Fed Ex'd it back to me. My camera was out for about 10 days total.

Your situation may be different then mine, but who knows...

I got mine 20D back about a week and a half ago, am still trying to decide whether or not to send it back. (It was gone a total of 2 weeks.)

I ended up dealing with a very nice rep from the NJ service center named Janice Conway. Don't have an extension # for her, but just call the NJ Center and ask for her. She's been very helpful to me.

Linda

I'm curious as to what the problem is with your 20D?

If that happens, I will walk into a store when a Canon rep is present. Leave him a bill. And walk away with his 1Ds Mark II display unit. :P

Question...did you have to pay shipping for all 5 of those times? Did they ever fix the problem? what was it (problem and camera body)?

My God...I'd flip after the fifth time there be a newspaper report. Man killed by a canon. Yes, a Canon rep died of suffucation after a disgruntled customer made him swallow a 77mm diameter lens!

Thanks,...maybe I'll press for that...

My problem is that my 4 month old 20D & 2 1/2 month old 70-200mm f/2.8 IS keep having a communication problem and locking up. (5 times last weekend at a wedding and 4 times in an hour last night.) Unacceptable IMHO for a $3,000-$4,000 purchase.

And one where I do not believe that I should have to pay the $100 S&H&Ins. Especially as I have my doubts that they'll fix it the first time as intermittent problems seem to be hard to diagnose. (What problem are you having? you mention having to send it back again - did they not fix it?

Out of curiosity, why is it going to cost $100 to ship it? I'm pretty sure you could ship that 20D anywhere in the US by ground for way less than $100, even if you get insurance and delivery confirmation.

Well, it's a $1/$100 for insurance. So it's about $40 for insurance alone with UPS. And when I last had to look into shipping my camera (and not in boxes) it was $78.

Wow, that sounds absurd. Where do you have to ship it to? I would consider checking USPS prices - they tend to be cheaper (if not slower). Is that shipping via ground, or 2-day?

And don't tell them it's already broken, cuz then they won't insure it ;)

Oh yes... now I recall the discussion on the lock-up issue; I didn't know if you were having other issues as well.

I shipped mine USPS, priority mail, with $2000.00 insurance, registered, it cost $16.00. Canon shipped it back to me overnight shipping, no charge to me.

All these people having problems with Canon Customer Service makes me want to consider buying a Nikon.

I had a problem with my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens, brought it to the Canon service centre in Montreal, got it back 7 days later fully fixed! I guess it's easier if you have a service centre right where you live...

My experience with Canon has been wonderful.

My daughter jammed the lens on her G5 and I brought it to Montreal for repair. Not only did they do the repairs I requested, they repaired a crack I had not previously noticed and completely overhauled the unit at no addtional cost.

I have nothing but glowing remarks to make about my experiences with Canon.

Same here. They fixed a back focus issue on my 70-200 f/4 in 8 days. Only cost to me was the gas to get to the service centre and the lunch I ate on the way there.

Here's my suggestion: move to a new neighborhood and buy a new house ... and make sure there's a service center in town.

Good luck.

Canon in Seoul is simply great. I dropped my camera and lost auto focus. Took it in on Tuesday and had it back on Friday. Costs for the 'drop damage' was minimal and replacement of some part/s(language barrier!), was free.
