Some dSLR's will work will lens from their film counterpart SLR cameras. For people that already own some lens for their film cameras, all they need is a dSLR body from the company and fit their lens on it.

Not necessarily! You could make a hole in the body-cap which covers the lens hole (included free with camera!) and use it as a pinhole camera!

1. They make nice paperwieghts.
2. Some (in the Canon 1 line) make nice anchors.
3. They look nice as a centerpiece and often get compliments.
4. The larger models can be used to impress your girlfriend.
5. They make nice gifts for fellow DPCers.

There are some previous threads on pinhole photography, including links to sites which specialize in it. You'll have to browse the forum titles since the search function isn't working.
