If you draw third lines on crop 3 it's too far right for the ROT.

Personally I prefer crop 2, which seems best balanced.

I don't like either of the crops...how about some open space on the left, and force the stack more to the right? Sort of take it to 8x10 format but just crop from the right side?

I second this motion

I'm gonna have to join the majority... I like #3 too... Great shot btw, where was it taken?

Oddly, I think I like the uncropped version best. I think my eye wants to see more negative space on the right, as of the cropped versions, I like the first one the most. I'd suggest cropping even tighter on the left, leaving more space on the right.

edit extra thought:

Not sure I understand Kyebosh's hatred of cropping...aside from lost pixels, I can't see how cropping can do anything but help a shot....

....is it a photographic honour kind of thing?

Get it right in camera as best you can. Obviously you can't always get the right shot in camera, and then it's a choice... I personally don't feel right cropping a lot of images unless there are real problems I didn't see before editing. Also especially for macro work, you can get a false sense of closeness from the crops for an internet shot, where you'd almost never be able to get a decent print out of the same crop. I gues it just irks me a little bit.
