HI. If you have time I would like to see what other people thought about this photo at first glance...Something simple to what ever you feel like saying....I really don't need technical info about the photo such a lighting,, mood, positions, framing, ect...I have already achieved that.....just emotions or thoughts. Questions that is brought to one's mind about the place.

I have been selected in a PROFESSIONAL Gallery and will juried judged.... Very excited. Also, possible scholarships to the Kansas City Art Institute.

I have my own thoughts about this photo and why I took it..just wanted to hear some input about how other may view as...

Overall, trying to write an artist statement about the photo...and seem to have writers block..ahhh

Thank you in advance,

Dustin03

I like it alot. As a thumbnail I liked it, at full size I liked it. I'm someone who has to have someone of interest doing something interesting in every shot, that said, this is still good. Great editing, too.

I like this picture alot, not sure what feeling you were going for but for some reason it makes me think Fear, as in Childhood Fear. Not that I was ever put in a closet, but that's the creepy feeling I get, sorry I watch way too many horror movies. And why is that door so freshly painted when the others are not- Creepy! Very Nice, I also LOVE the color one!!

Well worn. Abandoned. Used. Secrets. Damaged goods. I think, "This house was once new. Someone designed it. People built it. One or more people bought it. It was decorated...move the couch a little to the left... There was laughter and love and lonliness and sorrow within these walls. What happened? Where did everyone go? Where did the love and excitement and the newness leave off to? Who let it die?"

Images like these signify two great possibilities with the universal duo of "Ending and beginning."

From here it can go though the change of a new start. That is the old memories are abolished by renovations or, of course, the wrecking of the same into oblivion.

These images are either associated with the past or the future and present more of a good possibilty for discourse than the actual image which speaks only of that which is barren.

These images also present a problem for many viewers because they evoke ambiguous feelings of something lost in themselves or something to do with neglect. The image itself offers no hint of the drama that was once lived here. Hence, the viewer turns away much like they have with things in their lives that were relegated to die and leave them with an empty feeling.

Tonality is very good, but I'm questioning the imbalance that I see heavily weighted to the right, and nothing to counterbalance it on the left although I see what it represents. Does not evoke scary feelings in me, possibly because there is so much light, and possibly because of quick egress through the front door. If it evokes any feelings in me is sadness to think of the lives that lived there and of the delapidated condition it is in now. Maybe subconsciously the closet door represents years gone by. I see the visual tension in the image existing between the closet door (past) and the foreground window (present) which I think you did a good job to emphasize using a wide angle lens.

Visually we are drawn to the closed door. Are the secrets of the house behind the door?

Within this piece, I feel we view ourselves inside often isolated, torn, and frayed. Yet, if you look closer, there is significance, a purpose and light to our lives. Opening of doors and over abundance of light pouring in signifies hope, freedom and restoration outside our inner selves. The closet is the metaphoric icon of my past and closed.

Think so?

As I mentioned before. I have been trying to write an artist statement....In deed to it has help with all those comments...I found it very intresting and learned a lot. Thnank you again for your time to comment.

Here's my Artist Statment the will go with this photo. (it's till in the works)...

I̢۪ve been intrigued with creating forms of art for as long as I can remember. Moreover, I̢۪ve developed a great deal of passion for photography in these past recent years. I'm always looking for new ways to capture life with an inspired approach. I create images because I see no other way to turn your attention to the textures of life. My images are filled will emotions, thoughts, ideas and energy that my God have breathed into my soul.

UPDATE: I just got back from the reception of the Juried Contest of this photo, "The Closet". It' was wonderful to be part of the Gallery of many great works. My photo hangs there with other top professional artist and photographers. It's a humbling experience and honor. However, I'm kind of sad to say that I didn't win any awards or ribbons. As I was looking at other photos, there was one that looked VERY similar to the work that "heida" does...and had a ribbon attached to it...Hmmmmm.....Just a thought...I thank you, who had responded in this thread and on my photo page. It was wonderful to hear and learn.
