I see that it wasn't the best entry in the challenge, but I want to know really why?
Thanks! |

well I gave you a 7 on this...so I thought it was pretty good, and unique. But the cups on the counter make it look cluttered right there. Also it would have been great to see someone bowling, the man just standing there seems out of place. Maybe if you caught him doing something with the lights or other equipment. Just some thoughts. |

1. Marginal perceived relevance to the challenge. Making the camera a larger part of the image would have helped immensely there. It takes a second glance even to SEE the camera here.
2. Awkward composition, especially with the umbrella growing out of the guy's head and the careless-looking angle of the countertop, somethign that adds nothing to the image. One feels you could have found a much more dynamic composition had the effort been made.
3. Gnerally problematical lighting; everything of poetntial interest is either totally blown out (the umbrellas) or completely silhouetted (the people) except for the camera, which is so smalla portion of the picture and so broken up into individual shapes by the lighting that it seems almost camouflaged.
So, in summary, very "snapshottish" feel, which might have worked in a candid sense IF there was a real sense of "moment captured" (men at work, take one) but that's completely lacking here.
That's my take on it; I'd have expected a high 4's-low 5's and that's what it got, more or less.
Robt.

I gave it a 7 for originality. I guess you have to ask, "what draws the viewer in?" Because of the vantage point, there is a feeling of being removed from the action a bit. Who is this person on the left? A bowler, a camera guy? What is the emotional intent? I don't mind the harsh light when it makes you focus more intently on a certain part of the image. I guess the focus is on the man and the camera. The content is interesting but the actual image of the subjects are flat. I like the fact you did something different and didn't just spit out a stock shot. Sometimes I get a tired of glossy "perfect images". |

All right - that's what I needed. More or less, my malaise about certain aspects of the picture are what made it get the scores it did. I was expecting a little above five though, tell you the truth. :-P |
