I may be able to make it. Can't say for sure but it is within my driving distance and seems to be a great place to visit. I will let you know for sure a little later.

Hi everyone. I'm back from vacation, and just wanted to check in. Sounds like it's 10:00, Sept 3rd, in front of the Atlanta Historical Museum (which includes Swan House). Shall we meet in the lobby (in case it's raining or too hot)?
I'll be the one with a camera around my neck ... |

Okay folks, I called the Atlanta History Museum today to find out if there were any photography restrictions and heres the scoop. You can only go inside the Swan house and Tulle house if you take the guided tour and there are no photos allowed on the guided tour. So no photos of the inside of the houses. We're free to take photos and roam around on our own on the grounds. There are NO Tripods allowed. If we want to try to get the discount we will need to purchase tickets at least a couple days in advance in one lump sum. So if we still want to go here we'll need at least a firm 10 folks to get the discount. Knowing these restrictions, should we still go here or make other plans? Any thoughts? It's getting close!! Yay! :-)

I'm planning on being there at least part of the day. I have a request for some portfolio work for someone later that afternoon. I'll definitely take 1 ticket for the early stuff and if the wife & I decide to just make a day of it we'll be spending the whole day running around and shooting down there.

Well no need to purchase in advance. Not sure about the not taking the photos inside. Perhaps we should look elsewhere. If it needs to be delayed then we can delay it.

We can always do the outside grounds there then go to the park?

I'm sure there are lots of photo-ops around the gardens and such. Just wasn't sure if folks wanted to still pay to get into it. Nothing wrong with spending a little time there and then moving on. Either way is fine with me. I'm still kind of itchin' to go get some candids at the Dragoncon parade. :-)

It is fine with me to still do the Swan House and then head out somewhere else. |

Alrighty then,
Atlanta History Museum
at 10:00am in the lobby
on Saturday Sept. 3rd
We'll decide what to do next from there.
Sound good? Would love to get somewhat of head count so we know how many to look for.
Will this give everyone enough time to get there? Should we move it back a little? Just thinking of folks coming in from out of town, like Kevin and any others. If you'd like, PM me and I'll give you my cell phone number in case you need a contact person. :-) In case you can't tell, I'm a little excited. :-D

I don't think so, I suppose we can use them if folks want to. I can do some up if we want them. Probably won't be enough of us that it'll get to confusing. Heck James... it might end up being just you and me!! ;-D I'll wear one if you will. :-P

I'd probably have to bring the kids, tho. They're 6 & 4. Would that be a problem?
Also, website for Helen, GA.

My wife will be coming down with me. We'll probably need nametags but I'm not sure where you'd find a nametag for "B*$t@rd"

Just as an FYI, I called the Dragon-Con office (listed on their website) and got the skinny:
- no one in the office knows the parade route but there is no fee to watch or photograph it (figured there wasn't)
- if we each pay $25 we can get into the convention and photography is unrestricted for all guests (Lynn Abbey, Michael Stackpole, etc lest I appear to be a total SciFi/fantasy geek)
I'm up for photographing the parade and seeing how many characters we find or I'm equally up for finding someplace less . . . parady (Shakespeare eat your heart out).

Alright folks, just a week away! :-) Alright, well the Dragon-Con parade begins at 10:00 so we need to come to a consensus on where to start. Shall we start at the Parade, shoot some downtown and then move onto the History Center? How many are interested in the Parade? Or should we stick to the original plan and start at the History Center and skip the parade? Chime in folks so we can finalize things... for those planning on hanging out for most of the day, we'll probably want to stop for lunch someplace as well if you're interested.
So what's the majority say?
I'm up for the Parade if others are interested. :-)

I'll also pick up some nametag sticker type thingys too... just in case. :-) Although Kevin, I think I'll have a hard time finding THAT name. :-D
Confirmed:
James - Rex
Jen (+ friend) - jenesis
Kevin (+ Wife) - KevinRiggs (Not bringing the kids??)
Anyone else?

Just to add some fun and games I've decided to come dressed as myself and see if you all can pick me out. If you do figure out which one is me, you can jab me with a sharp stick or wallop me with a bat and candy will burst out of me. If you choose incorrectly . . . well . . . that will be self-policing as you're probably liable to get your own tushy spanked by a complete stranger in lieu of some cheapo candy or prizes I would've dropped.
See you there & good luck

It's this Saturday folks!! :-) I'll be bringing a friend of mine who is not savy to the ways of DPC, so be kind. She scares easily. :-D
Any thoughts on Parade vs. History Center?? If the parade is the consensus, we'll need to come up with a good meeting and parking place.
