I'm actually in the SF area right now, visiting a friend that recently moved up here for a job. I came with some other friends, but everyone's still sleeping (at 1pm!).. we had a long drive last night - got here about 4:30am and then slept in the car because we didn't want to wake our friend up. I brought my camera, but am not so sure that I'll get much of a chance to take it out shooting.

Tom.. mann.. oh man.. those "space and movement" photos are amazing.. looks like you had a blast. You capured some great images. So how was it? I think the B/W photos have more of a impact to me that is. Great job Tom!!

I agree that the Space & Movement shots are interesting.. though I'm a bit confused - what is this?
Anyway, I made it back in one piece :) - I didn't take many shots since I was with a bunch of non-photographer friends and didn't often have time to stop and take pictures of anything. I did take a shot of a dog that I liked and treated today. It can be seen here on my plog. Not much else to share :(

It's just some people who wanted to dance. You know, the artsy types. There is an abandoned burnt down house in the mountains of Malibu. So these guys come down the rocks and waterfalls and do some modern dancing. Kinda hippie stuff. I went there with the Yahoo group. At first, it seemed kinda dumb, but I just went to my candid portrait mode and clicked away. If I wasn't photographing, I wouldn't have gone, but it was fun to shoot, but it was a bit of a hike to get up there.

Hey folks,
Looks like activity has been dying here lately.
I'd like to invite everyone to a Yahoo group site that I'm a member of. We make it a point to shoot every weekend and more.
It's a Yahoo group called LAdSLR.
Please consider joining.

I'm not sure if I'll be going to the X-Games with my girlfriend after all - I'm probably gonna have to help her move into her apartment this weekend. So, I'm considering going tomorrow (but still trying to figure out what the different tickets are for.. anyone know what X-Fest is? I don't really want to pay more than $5 to take pictures of the game) if anybody else has thought about it. Otherwise maybe I'll go to Huntington or something else.. definitely going to be taking pictures.
Respond here or PM me if you want to go and have any ideas. Cheaper is better ;)

I'll probably be moving stuff over the weekend, and I think I have class again Monday (have to check - start of a new summer session).
I may even decided to swing by the Pavilion of Wings tomorrow, come to think of it. I'll look into the LAdSLR group, but how big are the outings? I don't think I'd be keen on making a large # of my outings with large numbers of people - once in awhile is okay, but I prefer to keep it to myself or maybe 1 or 2 more.. makes it easier to not feel dragged along.

Brian, most groups are about three to half a dozen maybe. It's not some hoard of photogs with flashes going off incessently scaring people.
Trust me.

Nice shots Tom - I like the selective desat and the one just before it on the 2nd page.
Raul - I like 'The Stranger' and the Flamingo shot in your portfolio.
Nice ones guys - I just went to the LA Zoo as a spur of the moment thing yesterday.. I feel overwhelmed with the processing though - may take me a couple days to get around to it.

Second Batch done.
Oh, Brian, shooting is a stress releiver for me. So I try to shoot every weekend, that's all. PP is about 30% of the fun, so I do it right after I get home. With RSE and Lots of RAM, I manage pretty fast turn around times.

lol that last photo is priceless Tom. Did you get questioned by the Trolly crew the woman in the back looks a little worried.
You went with the yahoo group? Those two wide angle shots of the of the house with the lightpole and with the fountain look great.

Raul,
No, the trolley person was looking back. We actually talked to them and I gave them my card so they can look at their photos.
The house is actually point fermane, which is a lighthouse in San Pedro. The fountain is in PV. I tried my hardest to lactate water, but to no avail. Oh well.
Oh yeah, went with the yahoo group, there were 6 of us total. Fun was had by all.
