That's crazy, all the more reason to go digital, and do prints at home thorugh a decent printer.

I think the title of this thread says it all! That is just crazy! Considering my wife and I blow raspberries on our little ones bellies I guess that means we are absolute deviates!

wow that sucks, may think twice about getting prints done somewhere

I would think that this story is incomplete.

Something is missing somewhere. No way do they toss someone in the pen for half a year for kissing his son.

Something else is behind it. My guess would be, it looked like he was in the boys crotch area when the shot was taken...or they had previous problems with the law.

6 months in jail? So much for guilty until proven innocent. Unreal...

I agree. The photo must have looked inappropriate for them to put him in jail. As for the person reporting it, I say good job because they must have thought it looked wrong for them to report it in the first place and more people should step forward when they think abuse is going on.

Give it a break. If you see someone kicking the crap out of thier kid, fine, do something, but kissing a baby? There are more then a few over zealous peolple out there who want nothing more then to mess up someone elses life, especially when thier name is something like "Hamaty" and they happen to be some place like NC.

Some people in this world really suck! You can't spank your child and you can't love your child..hmm..what the heck!

Just read the very bottom..said "The charges eventually were dropped when a report submitted by an expert said there was no criminal intent in the pictures."

Shot from the back of the baby - actions were assumed. Unbelievable.

A related case in maine was overturned by their Supreme Court. Note that it appears that middle-eastern cultures routinely kiss their young children on the genitals... I have no first-hand knowledge of this, but it is being so testified...

"Such kisses are signs of affection, not sexual abuse, ruled the Maine Supreme Court in 1996 when it overturned a sexual assault conviction of an Afghan immigrant who was similarly photographed with his 18-month-old son. The court ruled that the father kissing his son's penis was a common cultural practice and not a sexual act.

"Kissing a young son on every part of his body is considered a sign only of love and affection for the child," the court said in its ruling. "There is nothing sexual about this practice."

"It shouldn't be looked at as a crime," said Ludwig Adamec, a professor emeritus of Middle East history at the University of Arizona's Center for Near Eastern Studies, who testified as an expert in the Maine case."

I wonder if the man's ethnic background (Arab) had anything to do with his spending a year in jail. It may also be that in this man's culture it is perfectly normal to do what he did and it is not seen as a sexual act, but as a loving act.

Just to stir the pot a little - I'm not in favor of sending people to jail because they are Arab or anything, but I believe that just because something was part of one's culture in another country doesn't mean it is acceptable in the US if it violates our laws. The first time, they should get a pass and some re-education, the second time - jail or deportation back to their "culture", IMO. Anyone disagree?

Certainly makes sense with cannibals, eh? First victim is free, second you go to death row? I know that's ridiculous, but as a principle it's hard to support. We have laws, for better or for worse, against fondling childrens' genitals, even if they're your own (maybe especially if...) and that's the bottom line. I can't get into a debate about what the photos actually showed, of course, since I haven't seen them, but I'm a little surprised at the Maine court decision. But then, I'm jnot a fan of bilingual education in Southern California school system either.

I also don't agree the private parts of any child should be messed with. The law is the law in the states and everyone should have to follow them even the people from a different country. We would have to if we were in their country.

Who said anything about the guy fondling the kid's dick? The picture was shot from behind the child so anything that the man was charged with was based on assumption.

Besides, my mom used to wash mine when I was a baby and I don't remember anyone arresting her.

Ever try to clean a dirty diaper without touching your baby's "private parts?"

Let's use some common sense people ... if you're a vicious pedophile you don't abuse your own kid and then have your wife drop off the photos at the local drug store to be developed. Those folks may be perverted, but they're just not that stupid.

This case is just stupid too.

I do. What about the Jewish custom of circumcision? Wouldn’t that be considered child abuse? Or the Italian custom of letting kids drink wine at the dinner table? Every custom we have in this country, save the rain dance, have been imported at one time or another in the last 400 years.

And "re-education", what's that some shit out of Orwell?

you're right. God forbid a mother wash their child's private parts.

Let me say as someone that has had to f***ing defend this kind of accusation before, it hurts, and it hurts BAD being accused of this kind of shit.
I had to undergo psych evals as well as my daughter had to attend months of counselling because I found nothing wrong with my daughter, at the age of 3, coming in and cuddling up for security at night and sleeping with me on occasion. (Edit to add: ALWAYS wore Pajama bottoms when kids were young too) Was even a number of times I went in and layed down beside her when she was scared at night, and fell asleep beside her.
Funny, both my kids lived with me for the next 15+ years though in spite of it all.
I was able to stand on my own in court, without a lawyer too.

Accusasions are VERY serious and as in the case of minors, or abuse, you are GUILTY until proven innocent, and THAT can come at a very high cost - emotionally and financially.

Kid - "Why do I have to take a bath with my bathing suit on?"

Big Daddy - "I don't know what the laws are on that sort of thing."

Man... This is the type of stuff which makes me think twice about moving back to the US.

The whole country has just gone nuts.
It all started when the massive church enterprises began their massive campaigns into politics. Kind of like the mafia in the 1960s!

Now there is a serious "witch hunt" mentality, espscially in the midwest and southern states.

Doesnt surprise me some good ole boys targeted a minority.
