Can you respond to a commenter directly from the comment list for your pictures?

PM=Private Message.
They will get a e-mail with the PM in it.

However, the 'private' massage is NOT private. It does include your username. If the contest is still going on, it may be best to wait until after the challenge is over to pm or email the commenter. |

Do you mean that people are watching while I get a massage?! ;-)

It would be nice since the comment is attached (sort of) to the picture for all to see, that a response, if desired, could be too. I have a tendency to be a little goofy when I comment (challenge) ribbon pictures but I do that in an open forum. I don't like private responses and since comments on pictures are open to all I believe that a response would be best done in the same open manner..........

I think Heater actually meant "private message is NOT anonymous". Don't know about the massage thing :LOL: |

The message is sent to their email.
Not everyone likes to have the photographer of an image revealed during the challenge. A lot of people prefer to wait until after the challenge is over to discuss the entries. |

no one AFAIK.
The adressee gets an email message at the email account he entered in the form when signing up at DPC (or whatever he changed it to afterwards).
I'm sending you a test PM for you to see. Check you e-mail in a moment. |

Thanks. To bad responses couldn't be for public viewing also.

If you want it for the public, just reply in the comments section. You can quote other posts the same way you do in the forums. Private messages available to the public would sort of defeat the purpose. :P |

Thanks again. I wondered whether that was possible. I just think if someone puts a comment open for all to view a response back should also be open. This site is about learning isn't it? So, if someone comments should it not be open to all?

Yes, that's fine and a good way for your response to be open. You won't be able to respond until the challenge is over, but that doesn't matter because no one would be able to see the response until the challenge ends anyway.
The only concern was/is with people who PM in responce to a comment they receieved during a challenge. Once you respond to that comment, then the voter will know you who are and which picture is yours. Some people don't like knowing that. |

Yes I can appreciate that before the end of a challenge. It is nice to know you can respond openly. I like transparency
