Hey all!
I've got a few (well, a ton actually) new shots of my little sister that I'd like C & C on today:
Oh, and one of me:
Thanks tons everyone! :)
edit to take out the shots that (on second thought and with Kpriest's help) are just awful. :P

what style or theme are you going for?

I left comments on all. Obviously my opinion - take it for what it's worth.
Overall I would ask the same question art-inept asked. It looks like you are trying to find your own style. Feels like you are getting close, but maybe tainted by what you've seen others do. Keep experimenting. :) |

ya style is important. it looks like you're going for some emotive depressing theme on your bridge series. when you put your images through high contrast (such as the white fence series) do you throw in curves or dodge/burn it?

Thanks for the comments, everyone!
I really had no clue what I was going for here, and wasn't sure what I thought of all of these, so yeah--thanks for the opinons! :)
Oh, and when I do the high contrast stuff I just do brightness & contrast in PSP (or PS sometimes), no curves or dodging and burning.

Okay, one more that isn't depressing or dramatic or weird (I hope):
:) Thoughts? Is it a little too contrasty? I didn't do anything other than convert to grayscale, that's just how it was.

well, good work! high five to you.
The only thing I suggest is chaning the models cloths. She looks great and the pictures look decent but it's wierd that the model doesn't seem to have any realtionship to the background. That is key for a sucessful on sight shoot. Try dressing her in something else or moving her someplace else.
just keep shooting, I often shoot the same location three or four times before it can make it jive. |

Thanks for the tips, Topher!
I'll have to try that when we go down there again, probably later today. :)

This one is my favorite, it really gives you that dirt-between-the-toes feel! The high contrast works very well. It might make it even better if you could pull some detail out of the shadow on the shoe (for example using Shadow/Highlight Control in Photoshop), but I'm not sure it is necessary. Likewise, a composition that didn't center the toes might be better, but for many other reasons I still think this is a good crop. I guess the take-home message is that next time you shoot something like this, make sure to try more camera angles so you have choices for crops/compositions. |

Oh, thanks so much! I'll keep that in mind next time. This was just really quick, and I didn't think it'd be anything spectacular, so that one pic is all I shot.
Thanks again!

I like "unsure" and "barefoot" . I noticed you said you didn't really know what you were going for with most of these. You need to know what the main subject of your picture is before you take the shot and then try to take the photo in a way that draws the viewers attention to it.(I've always heard this and it makes sense to me , but I will admit I don't always practise what I preach). I believe in the two photos I picked that you knew what you wanted us to see and so you shot for that, even if it may not have came out as you pictured it, you probably got closer with those two to what you were going for than the others. You drew our attention where you wanted it. If you are trying to say something special with the other picks of your sister, keep trying, you will get there. |

Thanks, yeah I did have more of an idea of what I was going for with Unsure, and when I saw her feet for the Barefoot shot, I knew right then that it'd make something at least "okay" if not spectacular...Thanks for the advice, I'll remember it! :)
