1st impressions are I am going to love this lens though am a little worried about the vigneting at 10mm. This shot was taken with a Hoya super HMC PRO1 UV filter (super slim). In this particular shot I don't think it detracts from the image too much, but, should I risk not using a filter or is this going to happen all the time at 10mm?

did you compare the canon to the sigma 10-22 or 12-24? I am thinking of getting an ultra wide lens soon and right now im leaning to the Tokina 12-24, but still havent made up my mind yet.

The vignetting is NOT a problem if you shoot RAW, you can correct for vignetting in PS when you convert your RAW images.

Ahhhh - nice lens - It's high on my priority list to get. I would definitely shoot in RAW and correct any vignetting in PS for sure. I am so jealous ..... :P have fun |

Thanks peeps, it was actually shot in RAW but my eyes being what they are I didn't notice the vigneting until I'd posted this elsewhere (need to read up on the converter).
nico, unfortunately (for my bank manager) I'm a snob and other than a bellows kit and a 500mm Mirror all my glass is Canon (I think it holds its price better than 3rd party glasss).

Ecce,
I'm running mine filterless and get NO vignetting. I see no need for filters as a rule, and avoid them.
For what it's worth, to those who ask about comparisons with Sigma and Tokina, the Canon 10-22 is utterly distortion-free even at 10mm, something neither of the others can claim. A BIG plus in both landscape and architectural work.

Thanks Bear, most of my lenses are filterless as they have decent sized hoods, the 10-22 (or 17-40) hoods won't protect the lens. Shall try going without ;)
