I saw this and thought hmmmm, then I noticed that at £499 the reserve had been met!! Scratches or not it seems like a bargain so I checked his ratings. He apparently purchased it last month from someone that owned it for 15 years! Anyone else smell a rat?

Maybe this:
"There are two or three very small scratches on glass, almost invisible AND DOES NOT AFFECT THE GREAT QUALITY OF PHOTOGRAPHS that it can produce." |

You mean the wording? it reads to me as if images won't be affected? and even if they were slightly affected a saving of £2k leaves me wondering.
I for one won't bid on it but wonder if other peeps might only to find out the small scratches ain't so small?

This is NOT an EOS mount version, it is an FD mount 300mm f/2.8, completely different beast from the EOS mount 300mm f/2.8. It will NOT fit any EOS mount Canons.

I often buy items than immediately relist them. Terrible presentation & lousy descriptions are more often than not the reason for undervalued sales.
I make money & get to try lots of different equipment. |

I wouldn't mind having the FD L glass in a few focal lengths where you can MF with no problems and get creamy backrounds and shallow dof for a fraction of the cost of an EOS lens. But you gotta buy an adapter, that's where they get ya.

no I don't believe so, but still they are surely excellent. The main loss is in having to MF. Buying old lenses and using MF is atm very trendy. Seems that they're far better optically if you get the right ones.
