Hi everyone,

Been a lurker since Nov/04, and thought I would crawl out of the woodwork for a bit.

I'm simply amazed on a daily basis, with the pictures on this site. Some really great stuff.

I've been into photography for a whole year now, and as much as family & friends say how "wonderful" my pictures are, I know that I don't know as much as they think I know, in which I don't know. Ya know?

Translation: I am a LOOOOONG way from being good at this, and have LOTS to learn.

I have no aspirations of "going pro". It is a great hobby for me, that let's me be creative, where my career doesn't. (Running an IT Dept for a financial institution, is probably the least creative job you can find.)

Anywho, Here's a few pictures from this weekend...

If you're bored, you are welcome to peruse some of my other pictures...

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the fore,
Nice pics, I love the last one, and the tones in the first.

Paul.

Welcome to the lunatic fringe, Mike. Scares me to think there are so many "Lurkers" out there. ;-)

Your pics are very good! I like the 3rd one. I'm a sucker for toddler pics and found this one on your site... - Love it!

Don't discount your skills - it takes awhile to learn to become an Icelandic-level photographer. ;-)

Welcome Mike!! Glad to see you come out from the shadows. :-) These are such special photos. You really caught some wonderful moments. The first and last are my favorites of the bunch. Though they all have a very inviting, warm feel to them.

Paul/Ken/Jennifer: Thanks for the warm welcome. Makes it easier to get involved.

Paul:
I would bet there are tons of us lurkers. I think most of us are intimidated by the work we see here.(like me) I intended on starting my own photo site for lurkers, but no one ever responded. :)

That photo you are referring to, is of my daughter. She is my EXCUSE to start my hobby(a.k.a. spend money), in the first place. :)

If I could be 1/2 as good as a Newark, New Jersey-level photographer, I'd be happy.

Jennifer: I bet you say that to all the de-lurkers. ;)

Thanks again.

I vote for the first and last photo's also. Silhouettes are cool, and the first one can be a challenge with the strong lighting...you captured it pretty well.

Have fun and keep smiling!

Hmmmm ... you've done your lurking well, young grasshopper. You've seem to hit me spot on! :-D

Nice pics. Be mindful of taking too large of a picture for posting. You should be able to change the settings on your camera. Resizing in post editing to a smaller pic can cause lines and leading edges to look "broken".

Mike (RinkRat) - You're probably already aware of this, but I wouldn't worry about the settings on your camera when it comes to posting to these forums.

Shoot at best quality...you never know when you get that "super" shot you want to resample to something even bigger. Much easier to do starting from a good quality image.

fellajr/glad2badad,

Excuse my ignorance, but i'm not real sure what you are referring to?

Is there something wrong with the pictures I've posted?

Sorry for being dense.

No Mike - Nothing wrong at all. I was just saying keep doing as you are. Fellajr mentioned changing the settings on your camera for photos taken to post and you don't need to IMO. That's all.

Take care.

Mike, I think what fellajr was eluding to was that when we go to the links the pictures are resized by IE so they appear a little jagged/pixelated until you enlarge them to the full size in which they look fine. That's all. Maybe when posting them you can resize them a little smaller (at least the vertical shots) so that they are not automatically resized. I wouldn't change your camera settings as Barry said, you want to have them as large as possible so that if you get a gem you'll be able to print it out large and in high quality. Hope I didn't confuse things more. :-)

Ok, I think I got it now.(maybe)

I just assumed most photos were setup 800 pixels at the longest length.

I'll cut 'em down to 600 next time. (if I get another good one, that is)

I'm off to take some new stuff...

Thanks again.
