I just received my Mac Mini! But I realized after ordering it without a keyboard that the plethora of keyboards (all PS/2) I have here won't work, and they shipped so quickly there wasn't time to add one to the order.

So now I have it, but no keyboard to test with. It has built in bluetooth, so now the question is: what keyboard to get? Run to the apple store, and get one of theirs, or get a third party USB keyboard.

Or how about a converter? I hate that it doesn't take a PS2 keyboard. I have an Omnikey Ultra (several) that I love and so I never, when given a choice, order keyboards with new computers. Plus, if I can convert it, perhaps I'll be able to use it with my KBM switch (a PS2 OmniCube).

Recommendations? Is the Bluetooth wireless worth it? Will I be better off with the Apple keyboard than the PC?

The standard Apple keyboard should serve you well. Unless you have a problem with keyboard wires, don't bother with Bluetooth and the accompanying battery hassles.

I'll do a mini-review once I get a keyboard and get it running.

I was inspired to get this partly because it was relatively cheap, and small, supposedly fast, and gives me a way to get back up to speed on the mac and potentially test software that runs multiplatform. I do have a powerbook 1400CS from a number of years ago but I found it too painfully slow to use, even for just testing. And within 2 years of buying it, the software I needed to test wouldn't run on it anymore!

You can use a PS/2 keyboard. If it's USB, just plug it in. If it's got the traditional PS/2 plug you can get an adapter from someplace like Radio shack. My daughter used her's this way for a month before I bought here the apple keyboard (it's prettier).

Logitech also makes a keyboard for the mini-mac, I just one at the local Best Buy a couple of days ago.

Any USB keyboard will work. Get one that suits you. The good thing about an apple keyboard thouh is that it also serves as a USB hub.

The other good thing about the Apple keyboard is that it has a dedicated CD eject key (note that there's no physical button to eject a CD on your Mini). The F12 key should work on a standard USB keyboard, but it's nice to have a "real" eject key.

Thanks everyone. I am going to the apple store tonight to pick up a keyboard. Any reason I should buy an apple mouse? I have plenty of good USB mice with buttons and wheels galore, wireless, laser, and one that even makes coffee. Ok, I got carried away at the end, but the rest is true ;)

I like the Logitech MX series but, as Ryan said, any USB mouse should work fine. The mouse Apple just announced today looks VERY cool! Instead of a scroll wheel, it essentially has a mini-trackball built into it so you can scroll in any direction, not just up and down. I'm amazed that nobody thought of that before (as far as I know).
