My camera club is thinking (hopefully) of getting a digital projector. I really don't know anything about them. I know there are some that are more Powerpoint quality than photo quality but I don't even know why (contrast ratio? lumens? what what?)
Someone recommended we get the BenQ PB6200 1700 Lumen XGA DLP which he demonstrated for us and which several other clubs in the area have purchased. Looked good enough for me but I was curious if anyone had any other recommendations or maybe just a clue about projectors in general? |

Bottom line, using a digital (LCD) projetor is going to be similar to viewing on an LCD monitor. You're limieted to the native resolution of the LCD. For most, it's still 1024x768, some may be higher. Lumens is another gauge, the higher the better, but also look at contrast. You want at least 600:1. I'm not sure what the "average" contrast spec is for the latest models.

well, there are alternatives to LCD projectors such as DLP which provides a great image BUT LCD projectors are not all built equal either... a good projector will offer resolutions up to SxGA and contrast ratios that are very respectable... but those are not 699$. |
