I'm wondering if it is considered okay to post an image in a current challenge to other photo sites? I've been looking for a total of a few hours but I can't seem to find any direction on this. I don't want to violate any rules, written or otherwise. Thanks for your help on this.

Opinions differ on this one, but there are many people who do it. Just try to avoid bringing these pictures to attention here until after voting is over.

It's not a written rule that you cannot post elsewhere. There are some people who value anonymity highly so it's possible that it may affect your score somewhat but you won't be disqualified or anything.

Thanks for the info folks. I think I can wait a week for voting to end before sharing at other sites. I can understand and respect the anonymity thing.

You are right, it's not a rule, but you don't need me to confirm that - your are part of the SC :)
My thoughts on this subject is that the reason it is not a rule is because it would be very hard for the SC to enforce. With that said I feel if you have a photograph in a challenge you should NOT make it visible in your portfolio (copy), on another site, or passed though email to friends that would be a potential voter. Reason, bias - it's human nature. If someone has 100 fav's and they know the entry they may, and I stress may, vote higher than they would if they didn't know the author of the photograph.

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting an opinion from one or two friends to see if you are going in the right direction with your photo but anything beyond that breaks the spirit of the rule of anonymity.
Just my 2 cents.
