My entry...
wasn't well received.
How would this have done?
Let me know now that I can't change anything ;) |
the first one has a lot of noise - and the focus is off. The second is sharper, but lacks a subject of interest. Not sure if the second would have done any better because of this.

You are absolutely right Rikki! Those received scores around 5 as well highest 5.3 I´m just saying this because for a fact artwork is not popular unless it´s not the main subject and in this challenge nobody asked for DQ´s so I guess it passed...

I didn't enter either of these because of the Artwork rule:
And a couple more outtakes:

Xilebo, sculptures and other 3 dimensional artwork will rarely get disqualified, due to the fact that you can use lighting and position to make the photo your own.. instead of just seeing a flat representation simply mirrored for the viewer, as is the case with paintings/drawings/etc.. that's the major difference.

Mine could probably be considered "artwork" - I went for the gimmick appeal (have to quit doing that!).
Outtakes: This variation where I just inverted the colors - I thought it was an omen, but talked myself out of it:

Yep, I actually preferred the legs shot as well. It was shot during the challenge, but I only 'found it' after the challenge closed. I took about 400 shots on holiday and therefore this didn't immediately jump out. (I only had a couple of hours to upload my shots and select an entry!)
Wonder how it would have done?

Wrong. In fact, someone DID request DQ on every single one of them (and more). Fact is, they are not violations of the artwork rule. In the woody/boat pic. Did the creator of the woody include that boat in his artwork? How about the wooden horses. Did the photographer initially include the grass and sky in their sculpting? No, those are all outside elements, as are shadows from the other pics. 3D sculptures are usually not considered for DQ by site council. Actually, I don't think there is one single case where we have DQed a 3D sculpture. Just because a photo HAS artwork IN it...doesn't not mean that it is a photo of the artwork in it's entirety.
Now, if you took a photo of a poster with nothing else in the photo, it would be DQed. Photos of photos with nothing else, DQ. Photos of statues will NOT be DQed unless there is some really strange exceptional circumstances. |
