do you folks even *read* the contents of the threads you respond to? Seriously?

Sandisk and Lexar are probably the biggest companies out there. I don't know of any problems with either of the two with Nikons. There was a problem with Canon dslr's and Lexar Pro cards. I've used Lexar and Kingstons. Lexar crashed and Kingston is fine.

I don't know if your camera has a fast buffer or not. If it does, than you may want a fast card such as Lexar Pro 40x or even 80x cards. Sandisk's versions are called "Ultra" series and come in II and III, similar to Lexar's, respectively. Kingston's is nice and their pro versions are 40 and 50x write speed and are cheaper as well.
Good luck

We actually post to annoy you, I think. ;)

Your sig says "E SURE" instead of BE SURE. It's been buggin me.

Sandisk, Lexar, Kingston, good. Dane-Elec bad.

anybody got any CF's they want to sell??
08/01/2005 01:11:15 AM · #10
yido's right. From what I've heard (not really my own opinion, since I'm a sheep and don't have one.. and haven't tried out the others), Lexar and Sandisk are the best at the moment. Kingston is typically a 'common' brand for CF cards, but not as popular as the previous two (among photographers) for whatever reason. I own the 512mb Lexar 40x and have been very happy with it.

thanks all, i am currently looking at a 256 sandisk ultra2 on ebay. I will try and get a bigger card as well.

I only use the Lexar 1 GB 80X anymore. You can send them in to Lexar for the updated firmware to fix the problems with Canon cameras.

I'm not sure what the price difference is between Ultra and Ultra II, but am wondering if you necessarily need the speed of the Ultra II (versus the cost)? I think that is Sandisk's highest line?

so you can use your SD cards.
08/01/2005 03:19:43 AM · #15
i dont have any sd's so it dont matter. Currently i am bidding on a CF, it has 1 hour to go and it is currently $12. It is a used one but it should be ok and for $12 (if it goes for that) i cant complain if it only lasts a short amount of time.

Hey Lisa! I always use the Sandisk Ultras and they're pretty cheap these days for the larger sizes!

my issue wouldn't be so much about how long it lasts as it would be about if i lose some important images while using that CF! i would hate to spend a whole day shooting, come back and get a corrupted files warning.

true, I went back and had a look at it and it says it is new. I am keen to see what it actually goes for. I am the winning bidder so far. :)

Oops, thought you might have some sd cards for the Nikon. I guess you were using the internal memory.

yep only using internal memory with the nikon.

I have a Kingston elite pro CF card - seems to work very well so far, nice and fast too.

I have a Kingston and have had no prolems with them, I get mine from Digimem or 7Day Shop
These are the 2 cheapest for the UK dont know about the USA

I posted earlier I always use the Sandisk Ultra II's but I have to admit, I was also given a 1gig Silicon Power CF card from one of my old sales reps! I notice a slightly slower write speed than the Sandisk but it has been very reliable for me! Not sure how wide spread availability is though!
