Saw these clouds the other day. Driving, couldn't stop for a clear shot. The whole cloud was irridescent. I'm wondering if it had to do with the recent Saharan dust storm. My husband says he saw this a lot in Iceland. Anybody know what caused it?

See them a lot here. Just like a rainbow is caused by the sunlight hitting water droplets producing vivid color. The same thing is happening here. The clouds has moisture in them and the moisture serves as a prism reflecting a rainbow effect. Kind of like when you put your garden hose on a fine spray on a sunny day, you will see the same thing.
EDIT: you will only see them when the sun is low so that the light and color bounces in your direction. Most of the time.

Those are high-altitude clouds, and the iridescence you see is caused by refraction through the ice crystals that make up the clouds.

Thanks everyone. I've seen rainbows in clouds before, but never quite like this one. Thought it might be a dust thing.
