Now that i have a pretty decent camera i would like to start printing my best images.
When in Photoshop i have been cropping photo's using the selection tool then selecting Crop under the Image menu.
What should i be doing to these files so that my selections will fit standard photo sizes without distortion and still get the exact selection i want?

the technique will vary depending on if:
1) you want to resample (or are willing to)
2) do you need to rotate the image
The most flexible way is to use the crop tool. You can set it to exact dimensions: W x H @ Ndpi.
This allows you to move the crop selection around, rotate it, and resample the image all in one operation.
If you don't need to rotate and/or don't want to resample, you can also set the rectangular selection tool to a fixed size, e.g., 3000 x 2400 pixels (10x8 inches @ 300dpi) and then move the selection rectangle around to the right spot, and then execute the crop command. |

The rectangular selection tool can also be used with a fixed aspect ratio.
