I'm looking forward to buy a decent zoom lens (wide angle, tele), now that I've sold my sigma 18-125.
But then, I'm stuck, with 3 options:
- Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 ATX Pro-SV
- Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG M. DF
- Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di
The tokina one is the cheapest (R$ 1152,00), then the tamron (R$ 1.390,00) and for last the sigma one (R$ 1688,00). (all prices on brazilian currency)
Is there any major difference from one another, that justifies this difference on their prices?!?
They all basically the same, or not!? Will I be doing any better with the sigma one? Or the tokina is just as good as the other two options!?
Money wise, it makes some difference for me (I can get my prime 50mm 1.8 II if I get the tokina), but if the other ones are much better, I'd consider getting one of 'em.
Waiting for ur answers and comments! |

The Tamron is hailed as the king of the that range (not counting the Canon 24-70 that costs way more - but is sometimes compared to it!). The Sigma you list is also supposed to be a good lens, though slightly below the Tamron in quality. I haven't heard anything about the Tokina.

I will say this...
Tokina has the "best" lens caps... ;)
(at least their 77mm cover for their 12-24mm lens)

definitly Tamron...remember that tamron and Canon share the same process for glass polishing and surface coatings...and that tamron as canon have been swaping engineers forever.

Scalvert, Laurielblack, and Nico will all agree with Tamron - as they've posted their love of it before. :) (trying to help ya decide with other happy usernames lol)

If I wasn't too lazy to shave, I would use the Tamron. It's just that sharp.

Well, i think the tamron is the winner!
I like the range of it.....
lets see how well will the XT behave with it!
Thx guys......
FM's reviews are quite scary, some ppl seem to get bad copies of it, while others claim they've hit jackpot. The overall rating is very good!
news soon!!!! |

I have just received the Tamron this week and am still kicking myself in the ass for not getting this gem of a lens sooner.

looks pretty good... too bad you didn't say if it was at 2.8 or not. That makes a HUGE difference. Also you didn't say if it was a center crop or an edge.
