I'm designing another ad for Sierra Bonita Alpacas which will appear in Alpaca Magazine and I'd love some feedback from you wonderful people! :)
Any comments/critique on what I could change, which you like better, what you like about each one etc. would be lovely. I've done a couple ads for them before but I've never taken a class on correct advertisment layout or anything.
Note, these are a LITTLE rough. There might be typos here and there- don't be shy to point them out- and their Ranch logo will be at the right bottom corner. Thanks :)

I left comments on both.
For having never taken advertising classes, you're quite good at this! Either could work, depending on the media. My comments explain this better, I hope.
I've never actually seen an ad for an alpaca farm before...kinda' cool. Is he named for the 80's TV series hero, by any chance? lol
Any questions, or whatever, PM me.

I think a great idea for an add would be the following:
A big sky-scraper scene such as Manhatten NYC. Then super impose an Alpaca walking down the middle of the road.
The catch phrase "You just never know where you'll encounter alpaca wool..."
(The idea to show it as a trendy desirable high class "fiber".)

Ok, here is some more information:
Alpaca Magazine is one of the only- if the only- all about alpaca magazine.
Sierra Bonita is a very well known ranch since they've won small breeder of the year a coulple times and have Macgyver (see ads) who pretty much rocks the industry with his offspring. All the Mac babies win everything.
Chances are, if you are in the industry you probably know the names of Sierra Bonita and Macgyver. Also, Sierra Bonita is known for their ads in a way because pretty much everyones look the same- really cheesey, unprofessional, always a gradient cyan background with a bad outline around the alpacas. Sierra Bonita's are often looked for when the new issues come out. So really, the only people the ad is selling to is brand newbies to the industry.
I've done humourous ones ("SURIVIVOR") and regular too. Personally, I think most of the other ranch's adds are pretty corney, so I try to add that touch to mine to appeal to the alpaca-fanatics but also my own Katherine Anne Loveless touch to make it stand out.
I hope all that made sense :)
Thanks so much for your comments already, they are helping 100%!
And, yes, he is named after Macgyver from TV. :)

Good point that I didn't think about before. If the magazine is specialized it's not like picking up a People or US. People reading the magazine will have some sort of knowledge of Alpaca.
I guess if they are looking for female traffic for his grade A man blow it is self explainatory.
In regards to the artwork of the ad's they are great. I'm pretty familiar with your portfolio and they do have your flair. I think you have met your goals based on your previous post.
If the ad's were for a multi-purpose mag I would say taylor your sell more, but in this instance it will work.
Great job!

Based on what you've told us about the magazine, I think that either would work, although the evening shot, which is a bit more personal and less, for lack of a better word, corporate, might be the better choice, given the small community of readers.
I'm impressed! And don't ever let them lose your personal touch.
Oh, and MacGyver rocks - who else can disarm a bomb with a stick of gum? lol

Both look great, I never knew about celebrity Alpacas...
Anywho I like that little light effect you did to 'Macgyver' on the first one and it would look on on the one of your brother jumping as well. |
