Anyone have any info about when Apple will release a G5 laptop?

IMO, I don't think they will ever have a G5 laptop. The chip runs too hot. IBM has come out with a powersaving version, but Apple may just wait to use an Intel chip.

have not heard of it yet but most likely it will come to life when apple debuts the pentium chips on the macs.

Quite probably - never...
Hence, Apple's switch to Intel processors. (I also suspect Apple will be using the "Pentium M" (an Israeli designed chip that megahertz for megaherts gives AMD's Athlon a good fight for it's money). And we'll probably see those in iBooks.
Another possibility I heard is a dual-core G4 for laptops. This does not preclude the possibility of a G5 iBook. But right now it seems like one is several months off and Apple is supposed to switch to Intel in 2006. So I don't see much "reward" for them expending "R&D" for such a short term solution. Hence the dual-core G4 seems more likely.

There is no news on macaddict, thinksecret or macrumors about a G5 Powerbook.

A G5 PowerBook ain't gonna happen, much less an iBook. Apple might put dual G4 processors in a Powerbook, but that's about it until the Intel switch next year. |

for some reason it doesn't sound legit to me. They just came out with the new enhanced ibooks i cant see them releasing the new g5's next month. I'm sure if they do it wont be until january when they have the new chips in them. Anyone have any news on a g6 in the near future???? |

The reason I had asked was I wanted to get a laptop and didn't want to go buy a G4 if the G5s were coming out in September. My G5 Powermac does have an enormous cooling core which would make sence with the theory that the G5 chip would run too hot for a laptop. I can't wait till next year however.

Preliminary reports with the Intel processors are looking really good from what i hear. And I wouldn't doubt it if people eventually get Mac X to run on an AMD64 for even more performance. |
