Finally figured it out a bit. Any comments or suggestions would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks! :-)

Yup, you've got it figured out alright! I'd suggest you try a coiuple gentle passes of sharpening on them. Try two passes of unsharp mask at radius=0.3, amount=100, threshold=3.
Also try just a little contrast boost using curves (a slightly s-shaped curve)

The right side is kinda dark. Have you tried using a fill flash?
On a more serious note, they both look great, but I prefer the b/w one. And for some reason I like having the moon in the top right corner. For some reason, that's where I always try to place the moon.

It always ends up on center for me. I tried moving it, but it was too heavy ;-)

There is my attempt at a re-edit. Thanks a million Kirbic.
Incarlight- as for my positioning with the red one? I didn't want to limit myself. ;-) Hehe.

If you wait for the tides to be going the right direction it is easier. |

Okay NightShy, now tell us how you did it, please! I've been wanting to try for a while but just haven't gotten around to getting the settings right yet. They look great!

You wanna know the secret? You know I'll have to kill you if I tell you, right? WELL...
I'll pretty much sound like the most unprofessional photographer on the planet when I say this- and well, frankly I am the most unprofessional photographer on the planet- but I just played around with the different settings on my camera and got lucky after some failed attempts. The technical information is under the B&W one for all you smarty well versed photogs unlike myself. :-P
