Anyone know how the color of this movie was achieved? The whole movie has a soft yellow tint and I'm thinking it was done with a filter and not post but really not sure. Any ideas or anyone know for sure? |

cinegel, cinecolor etc are some of the examples of "hollywood" filters that may have been used. anyway, an excellent film. a must to watch for a photographer :) |

After watching Amelie by the same director and cinematographer, of course. |

"Payback" (Mel Gibson) makes use of the same idea, but it has a blue tint. |

I know for the movie "The Aviator", Adobe After Effects and Photoshop were used to post process the video to achieve the look of existing footage from the time period. Scorsese wanted The Aviator's color palette to reflect the look of movies from the period being portrayed onscreen. So, for scenes set between 1927 and 1937, the film emulates Technicolor's two-color dye transfer; but when the action takes place from 1937 to 1947, the look changes to Technicolor's three-color dye transfer system.

I saw that in the "how they did it" part of the DVD and was blown away. The attention to detail was bordering on stupid! But I'm sure was a large part of the why it was so good. |
