A friend of mine recently had a friend pass away. Before the person passed away they left my friend some voice mail messages on her cell phone that she would like to have quality recordings of.
I tossed around several ideas, but can't think of an easy way to do it. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Why not call the cell phone carrier and ask?

do cell phones have headphone jacks? I don't know, I don't own one...if they do, connect the headphone jack to the microphone jack on your computer and hit record.

Good idea, check with someone like Radio Shack and they should have a two sided input cable that can go from your phone to the recorder, you will most likly have to by a step-up adapter for one side as the cell phone jack is usually something like 2.5mm and radios are larger.

Radio shack has a device that has a sucktion device that you place on the sound side of the phone and can plug into your computers recording hardware. You can then use windows to record or what every device that is compatible with your hardware. I use it on my employees to record there conversations with guests as a training method so they can be better on the phone.

I've often wondered (and worried) if they still hear and record stuff while you are on hold, I'm sure there would be some good ones of that, from me included. I have often been singing to the hold music, talking bad about the company to someone else or other potentially emabarrasing stuff.

Most computers has an input jack of 1/8". Radio shack has a cable in the 274 section that is 1/8" to 1/8" and you can get them in 3' lengths. Purchase a step down adapter 1/8" to 3/32" and put on one end of the cable. Plug the 3/32" into the phones headset jack and the other end into you computers audio input and record.

If the phone does not have a headset jack then the suction cup device which is in the phone section will work but render less quality.

She contacted the carrier and they didn't seem too interested in getting her the messages on a CD. I'll look into the earphone idea. That should work. Great idea, thanks!

Yes when your hold you can hear everything the other person is saying well atleast on our system you can its funny the things that people will say. I had this one person yelling at his wife just cussing and screaming so I decided to quote a higher price just cuz I didnt want any trouble around my place.

Yea they have ok quality depending on what kind of phone you place them on. Being a manager at RadioShack for 10 years, you will be surprised at what you here. :)

This will work well if you have a headset jack. You can record to computer and burn to cd or record to a tape.

Dependes on what kind of cell phone she has. Nowadays, most cell phones have the hability to record conversations (my siemens mc60 does that).
All you gotta do is, call up her voice mail, and have the phone record the "conversation", in this case, the messages. The phone itself records it as an audio file (usually .WAV), which can be sent via email, or downloaded using a cable (I have a cable I use to transfer files from the phone to the pc and vice-versa).

that might do the trick for you!
good luck with that

Another case of "I just read the original post and did not read through to see if the issue was settled" ;-)

My apologies, Scuds. It probably was rude. And it was actually ME who wasted my time typing that response, not you. Just compulsive. No harm, I hope.

It's my turn as well to ask for an apology! But I've done it directly to you, via PM.
No harm, for sure!
