Callaway Gardens is another option, although I've personally never been there, I hear it's nice.

Jen,
I had discussed with muckpond the possibility of a trip to Notacon over a beer recently, but I must be back in WI for a not-to-miss photo trip :-) on Saturday. So I had to take a pass on Notacon, unfortunately. I'll PM you my work cell and if you are able to get away for some evening/night shooting around Atlanta, give me a call Thursday afternoon.

Now Helen or Callaway Gardens?

I think I can make the 3rd if it's Helen - I suspect my husband would be thrilled. He does a bit of cycling near Helen whenever he can; the roads up there are exciting for cycling & he knows some amazing spots for views. I understand if others want Calloway instead - I've never been but it's supposed to be beautiful.
P.S. I'm also available for anytime around Atlanta itself.

I'd prefer Helen for Sept. 3rd and maybe a GTG to Callaway Gardens in the spring when all the flowers are blooming.

I like Callaway for two reasons.
1. It's only 20 minutes from my house and
2. I get in free. If I'm not mistaken I can have up to 4 guest with my card to get in free. I will have to check. |

Don't think I will be able to make it to Helen, GA on the 3rd but I will see what I can do for everyone about Callaway in the spring. My wife works for TSYS and we have two year around passes and each can bring 4 guest for free (most attractions and dates). On a side note callaway will be having the Sky Hot Air Balloon Festival Sept 2-4, 2005. And don't forget the
Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center. |

Would love to see the balloons and such, but my problem is more of money than anything else. We're moving in August, and will have some expenses associated with that. Helen will be a squeak as it is.
If there's going to be other activities & places to visit, a head's up ASAP would be nice...
Sara
(Not begging, just letting ya know what's goin' on.)

*bump* for the weekend crowd.
Does anyone have any other suggestions just in case Helen doesn't pan out? Would love to have it in a more central place so that that it might be easier for SDW to attend. Unfortunately, I don't get out much so I don't have much to offer but here are a couple suggestions:
Stone Mtn.
Zoo Atlanta
Botanical garden
Piedmont Park (free)
Centennial Park area, including CNN center and other Downtown architecture (free)

Has anyone ever been here?
Historic Swan house and Garden
Looks like there would be a ton of interesting photo ops. :-)

Labor Day Weekend is also Dragon*Con, which will be in the heart of downtown Atlanta and will certainly provide many, uh, "interesting" photo opportunites. There's a parade down Peachtree Saturday morning featuring the 501st Stormtroopers. Seriously. It's right near Centennial Olympic Park.
Zoo Atlanta is in the middle of Grant Park, which is a great neighborhood (and a nice little park), and very near historic Oakland Cemetery and Cabbagetown, another neat neighborhood. The houses in GP and C-town have great turn of the century architecture and lots of color.
Piedmont Park and the Botanical Garden are practically next to each other. The park has great people (and their dogs) watching and views of the Midtown high rises.
The Atlanta History Center is just off the main Buckhead bar district. It's a neat little place with a couple of historic homes and some gardens. There's also the Carter Center with its Japanese gardens and interesting architecture; it's relatively close to the Martin Luther King National Historic Site. |

Just talked to my husband. I can confirm for Helen or Atlanta, wherever the group decides. |

That place looks awesome, too.
I'm up for just about anything from Callaway north to the TN border. Helen is only 120 miles so I'd love to join in on that one, too.

Jennifer that Swan House and Garden looks great. We just need to decide on a place. Atlanta would be easier for me but if the majority wants Helen then that is fine by me. |

Hmm, I might be able to swing by if the group goes to Atlanta. Helen is too far for me. |

I'm up for anywhere. I live fairly centrally in Atlanta, so if that's the destination I can offer my home as a meeting place, for coffee or lunch - depending on when everyone can make it.
Otherwise, I'm happy with anywhere in a two mile radius (although I might have kiddies with me - my husband is already getting his bike ready for Helen!) |

Let's do a little survey:
Swan House in Atlanta
or
Helen
My vote would be for the Swan House . I can do Helen if that's the majority though. :-)
